Comments about REI Taj 3 Tent:
I bought this tent for short weekend trips to my favorite wilderness (San Jacinto) for the comfort of size but I have since taken it on 3 50+ mile backpack trips, split the weight with 1 or 2 others and never regreted the extra weight. At dusk till night when it's time for the blood suckers to have dinner, up to 4 of us have retreated to the Taj to enjoy the sounds of those pesky suckers as they fly around OUTSIDE the screening looking for food. It has enough room to sit up in for 4 men to play cards.

Comments about REI Taj 3 Tent:
[...] The tent has great room for its price and appears to be well designed to handle moderately bad weather. I haven't had a chance to test it out in heavy rain but it remained very dry inside in a light rain. Ventilation is pretty limited with the fly on but it does have some options to partially roll up the fly to expose some of the mesh. Without the fly on, this tent is very well ventilated. The tent is relatively easy to set up as long as you practice in calm wind conditions and read the instructions. Thoughtfully, the instructions are printed on the stuff sack so you never have to worry about losing them. Setting it up solo in windy conditions can be a bit challenging but not too tough as long as you follow the instructions. That shouldn't be a problem anyway because this isn't a tent you would hike with solo--it's a bit heavy for one person to pack so split it's weight up with a friend and head out.Overall, this is an outstanding buy at its price point.

Comments about REI Taj 3 Tent:
My wife and I are both over 6 ft tall and it is perfect for us. We can fit our young son with no problem. The vestibules are a bit small and it takes a few times to figure out how to put it up correctly, but overall we have been very satisfied for the past dozen camping trips we have used it.

Comments about REI Taj 3 Tent:
My wife and I bought this tent for backpacking but find ourselves using it for car camping too. There are lighter tents out there however for the two of us the extra 1 person room is very nice. We have room too put our packs next to us inside the tent our at our feet. The vestibule is not big enough for anything other than boots and not really big enough for cooking. We find ourselves though using this tent more and more for car camping.
The first couple of times setting up the tent the fly can be a bit of a hassel trying to get it just right but after a while we can set it up together in under 5 minutes.

Comments about REI Taj 3 Tent:
I have bought this tent twice!! The first time our dog jumped up onto the screen door and really shredded it, we planned to sew the screen, but never got around to it, and then the price dropped dramatically and we bought another one. The design is a bit different in the new version, even easier to put up, but with the same waterproof fly and all the features that made me love the first one so much. I would highly recommend getting the footprint with this tent, as it is hard to get the fly right if you put the tent up on a tarp. You end up having to bunch up the tarp and then if it rains the rain goes under the tent. GET THE FOOTPRINT, it is well worth the extra money. I love this tent and I am so glad to have it back!

Comments about REI Taj 3 Tent:
We've had two Taj3 tents for about three years. They have proven wonderful all-around tents for backpacking, canoe camping and car camping. They are pretty quick and easy to set up, very sturdy and have never leaked. The tent is super roomy for two and sufficient for three. This summer, a group of seven (3 adults, 4 boys) spent a week in two Taj3 tents at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. There was enough room for three adults to sleep comfortably (no extra gear in tent). The boys were tight but were comfortable. This arrangement allowed us to carry less tents on the trek, which was important since we had some pretty big hikes. I highly recommend this tent.

Comments about REI Taj 3 Tent:
I have the older model--which had ventilation problems. Looks like they put the doors across from each other now instead of at the bottom--should have improved airflow. Not really hard to set up, but harder than similar models. I know many 3 person tents don't really hold three people, but the weird octagon shape really limits your options on accomodating more people. Vestibule is not much--I would like to see a bigger one for outside tent storage. Overall a good solid tent, would be great for canoe camping for two people or 2 people and a dog or small child. With some minor modifications could be a rock star!

The 2-door design is a welcome addition when camping with 2 people. When the rain-fly is on - each camper can place his/her backpack just outside the door but still within the rain-fly.

Great tent for wife and I, comfortably fit us and both packs inside tent... light when we split the tent between us. I recommend you set it up before you go out camping...
