Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

Used this tent backpacking with my 10-year-old son and our dog about 25+ nights with no problems. Room is getting cramped as my son is getting bigger. Time to go to a 3 person tent.

However, this tent is easy to set up. I was able to set it up in just minutes with an approaching downpour with no problem. Rainfly did it's job well and even withstood dime-sized hail. Never got wet! Only drawback is there is no real storage room under rainfly for gear. Luckily I brought 2 large plastic trashbags and threw our packs in them for the night. Kept them perfectly dry.

    Excellent tent for the money.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

I just used this tent for the first time on an overnight with my buddy and his small dog in the Los Padres. I was extremely worried that we wouldn't fit since I'm 6'2, 245 and he's a thin 6'2. We fit fine with room to spare for the little dog. This tent is very easy to set up and although it's not as light as some of the ultralight shelters you can buy, it is free standing. This enabled us to set up on a rock ledge overlooking a fast moving stream. Very cool. We also didn't notice much condensation. I love this tent and highly recommend it. Thank you REI for another great product.

Extremely easy to set-up and is small enough to fit in a saddlebag on a motorcycle. Great price for this tent! On my week long motorcycle trip, the temperature dipped below 40 degrees many times yet the tent was warm and cozy.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

I have taken this tent on a few trips. The first was an overnight kayak trip up the Pecos River at Lake Amistad, TX. It was 100 degrees or so with howling winds down the canyons. The tent stayed up and was well ventilated. The next was a Feb fly fishing trip in the Smoky Mountains. I woke up in the morning to find 8 inches of fresh snow piled up on and around the tent. I had no idea it snowed, the tent stood up fine. I just got back from fishing the same place with a friend and it was comfortable for two. Pretty good tent for a small pricw.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

This is the first tent I ever purchased, after I'd been camping only once with friends. I knew nothing about tents and relied on the REI sales associate for a recommendation.

What I liked most right off was how easy it was to set up. It takes literally three minutes. I was able to do it in the dark and rain with no problem.

I purchased this last fall and was immediately surprised with the worst rainstorms the Midwest had experienced in years. I was perfectly dry the whole time.

The tent also did perfectly fine in wind storms with gusts of 45 mph. I moved to the car and kept checking to make sure the tent was okay. I wish I'd just stayed in it.

The pole for the rainfly isn't absolutely necessary. I've used the tent on a number of occasions without it.

My only con is that I'd like there to be more ventilation. Even with all the mesh exposed and in New Mexico, I got some condensation from my breath. Not a lot...just enough to make it feel stuffy.

I bought the 4-person model of this tent a number of months later. I've used it quite frequently and it's held up well.

I've kept this one in the event that I want to go backpacking on the spur of the moment and as a backup in the event that the larger tent has a problem. It takes virtually no room in the car and is a good security blanket.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

I used this tent for the first time recently. The first night I didn't stake the rain-fly cover because I was too lazy to make tent pegs (doesn't come with the 2 extra tent pegs required for the rain fly). Well, it rained hard and the wind blew. I was comfortable and dry. In the morning I woke with 4 very small puddles inside the tent--one in each corner--not a big deal.

The second night (new campsite) I set up the tent and did stake out the rain-fly cover. Again, it poured down but without wind this night. Water came in at both ends of the tent and I had to set up towels to collect it to keep it off of me. It was dark so I couldn't tell exactly where the water came from--either the rain-fly waterproofing failed or it splashed up underneath--but my guess is the latter.

Setup and takedown is quick and easy. I may get a ground cover (footprint) for next time.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

Tent goes up in a flash and is very light. Durable design- no sleeves to feed poles through. The only problem I have is that there's no room for gear with two adults. When I was with my son, we had room for his gear at his feet, but just because he's short...The nice thing, though, is that the fly is designed with a nice overhang over the door where gear can be stowed in good weather or light rain. I love having two doors on this. Very easy in and out for both people. This is fantastic for one person- light and room for it all.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

Even though it's 2P, I use it as a 1P tent. For the price, this tent is such a sweet deal. It is easy to set up, take down, ventilates well, and very roomy for one person. The vestibules won't have you fumbling around for those small essentials. The ceiling loops are great to hang a flashlight from! Don't forget to get the matching footprint... works best! Aside from other camping trips, I've also used it during a very gusty, windy weekend campout on one of Cali's Channel Islands, and it held strong. NOTE: For easier set-up, stake the tent corners through the footprint into the ground first.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

My wife and I used the REI Camp Dome 2 tent on a recent trip to Big Bend National Park, TX. We were camped at Toll Mountain which is on an exposed ridge in the Chisos Mountains. The winds blew 25-35mph all night long with temps of 45F. The tent held up admirably, with no signs of damage the next morning. We found the tent was easy to setup (only needs 4 stakes to hold it in place, it was lightweight enough for our needs, roomy, [...] Definitely recommend it.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 2 Tent:

On a recent 5-night adventure to the central Washingtion Cascades, I discovered the true value and quality of this tent. One night, the winds gusted over 60 mph, with enough force to dislodge the ground stakes and literaly lift up half of the tent, raising the lower half of my body at least a foot above the ground. During that sleepless night, my body weight was all that kept the tent from flipping over and being blown off the mountain. Upon inspection in the morning, I was amazed to discover that there was not a single tear in the fly or tent...not even at the severely stressed points where the tent attaches to the poles! The only evidence of the severe wind storm was some disfiguration of the metal poles, while more expensive tents belonging to others in my party suffered substantial damage. I can't imagine there is a more durable tent on the market in less-than-$100 price range.
