Comments about SmartWool Uniform Medium Crew Socks:
I'm glad that Smartwool makes these, and I'm glad that I found them. During winter, I like the way that Smartwool socks keep my feet warm and toasty, but heathered colors don't look great with some clothes. With these socks, you get the softness and durability of Smartwool socks, and you get a color that goes well with nicer clothing and shoes. They do pill a little after repeated washings, but this is normal.

Comments about SmartWool Uniform Medium Crew Socks:
These socks are the best, worth every cent.
I wear them outdoors year round in Florida with my Danners, can't go to work without them. They fit well, hold shape great, very comfortable...I would wear them every day if I didn't live in flip-flops on the weekend.
Wash them inside out like the instructions say and they'll be like new forever.

Comments about SmartWool Uniform Medium Crew Socks:
I bought these to wear in the reserves but ended up wearing them on all adventures- hiking, snowshoeing, mountaineering, etc. Comfy, cushiony and domestic made. And black? Come on, black is the new black.

Comments about SmartWool Uniform Medium Crew Socks:
I am a big fan of Coolmax (a synthetic fiber) -based socks for work. Synthetic fiber socks wear well and don't cost much. Before trying the Smart Wool for a recent overseas trip, I didn't think wool was worth the cost.
I was pleasantly surprised by my experience with this black wool crew sock - unlike a synthetic fiber sock, I was able to wear it all day at work, another 8 hours at the airport waiting for departure, through 20 hours of flight/waiting in transit time, and during the 3 hours it took to check in and shower - with no odor build up. The natural humidity regulating effect of wool helped keep my feet dry on the ground but not too dry during the flight.
The biggest surprise was how well these socks dried out in the hotel after a sink wash. Wool is notorious for drying slowly, but I gently wrung these socks out, then rolled them in a towel and walked on the towel to "express" the moisture out of the socks and into the towel. Thanks to this neat trick, by the next morning the socks were dry enough to wear, while synthetic socks take up to two days to dry to the point of comfort and even then can still feel very damp in the high humididty of my destination. I'm not saying the wool dried faster, though it seemed like it, just that wool socks are much more tolerable slightly damp than synthetic socks (and forget that old "wool smell," there is none).
I am now sold on wool. While it may retain some moisture, it handles moisture MUCH more comfortably than synthetic. If you can afford it, these socks are the way to go for travel. Won't stink if you have to wear them extra long, can wear them quickly after sink wash, and don't feel wet or clammy.
And yes, for the last 8 years if not longer, Smart Wool has made some of the best specialty wool items around.
