The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
Bought this for a Christmas gift exchange with family. We ended up with it after rounds of gift "theft" permitted in our family, and couldn't be happier - LOL. VERY sharp knife, and nicely spring-loaded pliers. Very well made, and we'll have it for years to come.

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
I purchased this tool to get me by and test how much I would use a multi-tool before I bought a more expensive/heavier duty tool. For the past year, I have used it for work, camping, hiking, and at home. It has proved to be a very durable tool for the money. The knife is still razor sharp, tools have not bend (yet), and pliers spring still functions.
I do plan on purchasing the new tool that I originally had in mind because I found that I use the multi-tool often. This is going to stay in my vehicle/work truck as an extra backup. If you don't have $150 to spend on the top of the line, this is the tool that will get you by.
Biggest complaint about the tool is actually the sheath that came with it. It last a whole 2 days! What a joke. First it was the belt attachments, then the entire sheath unraveled. I leather craft as a hobby, so it was no problem making a new quality one that has lasted.

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
This multi-tool is nice and functional -- especially the lock-out feature that keeps the knife and other tools locked out while you're using it. The only drawback to this tool is that philips screw driver is almost impossible to get to. The side it is on is very narrow so it's hard to pull out if you have medium or large fingers. Also, the philips screw driver has an odd design -- it is flat on top with notches for the four angles. That makes it tricky to use. I don't use this multi-tool for screwing many things so it's never been a huge problem, but I could see it being annoying for someone who needs to use that tool frequently.

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
Every tool has been used at some point since I've had it (about 18 months now). And it is awesome! It is a lot more easy to use the pliers since they are spring loaded. The blades are all very sharp and as long as the tools are cleaned and maintained properly, then no problems will occur. I keep it in my car just in case and carry it on me when I'm camping and it has really past the test of time.

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
I am a Park Ranger at a state park and my multi-tool gets used every single day without fail. That being said, for almost 2 years i carried a Suspension and put it through the paces. Gripes are few but pretty important. the pliers do not offer much holding force. i don't know if it is because of the amount of flex in the handle hinge or something else. they will not break a moderately rusted nut. they also do not offer much twisting power without bending the jaws. the tips of both screwdrivers chipped during the first use. not badly enough to render them useless, but still not what i was hoping to see. lastly, and most nit-picky, the belt sheath that came with it did not last 3 months on my belt under everyday use. the belt loops ripped out of the seams. i don't consider this to be a terrible fault however, because i get into and out of a vehicle constantly, am walking through thick underbrush frequently, and constantly snagging it on things. no belt holders last long.
That being said there were things i really liked about the Suspension. first is the spring loaded plier handle. it makes working 6hp boat motors more comfortable and removing fish hooks a less clumsy operation. second, the knife blade is incredibly sharp and when unfolded fits in the hand in a very comfortable and controllable way. i have removed countless splinters, metal and glass chunks, and tick heads from myself, which is much easier and safer with a sharp controllable tool. and the pro of this tool which makes it a serious contender is the price. this was my first multi-tool and the very reasonable price is what made me finally break down and buy one.
when i lost my Suspension on a camping trip to Maine last fall i mourned it's loss. i have been without a multi-tool for almost a year now and have finally been pushed to buying one. i am replacing my suspension with a Leatherman Wave. i am hoping that it will be a sturdier and heavier duty tool than my Suspension. for twice the price it better be. you get what you pay for with the Suspension, and if you will use it for light duty only i would expect years of happy performance. if you are going to really put it to the test, i would buy more than one because you will be replacing it.

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
Used this multitool this past weekend. The knives are pretty sharp and had no issues with it. The issue I had was with the can opener.
While opening up a can, the can opener started from being in-line with the handle to having a 30 degree angle. It seems that the backing that prevents the can opener and other knifes slid down and now it doesn't stop any of the other tools from bending backward...no support.
I'll be returning this and finding another tool.

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
Poor design and poor quality make this tool almost useless.
I have two other multitools; a Leatherman Skeletool and a Leatherman Wave. Both are smaller when folded and have a knife blades that are useful for more than trimming fingernails.

If you need a multi-tool and want to stay below 40 bucks this is for you!!!! Loose it in the woods or break it on that wilderness adventure you won't be heartbroken.....cause it didn't cost an arm and a leg.
I was very happy with the quality and usefulness of this thing, Gerber got it right!
Yeah I own high dollar, super light, made of "gold" super tools.....but this guy is the one with me on every camping trip! If you don't need a flux capacitor on your next "back to the future" journey this is the tool for you.....just buy the dang thing and save the $$$$ for the Thermorest neo-air you've been drooling over!

Comments about Gerber Suspension Multi-Pliers:
I was given my first Gerber knife at age 9. I still have it. So naturally when I wanted a multi tool knife I went for a Gerber. I loved it for the first few months. It was always on my belt or in my pocket. Then one day i was using the wire cutting tool in the pliers and Snap! The plier's pivot area cracked in half. I am going to send it in to get it fixed, but It seems that it should have been stronger. I still like Gerber products but am hoping this will be fixed in the future.
