Comments about Mountain Green 30 LED Lantern:
I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this. But here's why I did:
1) I had a cheap lantern-flashlight that fell apart in my trunk so it wasn't working when I really needed it. This looks quite sturdy. And it floats, so I'd have to qualms leaving out on the picnic table while it's raining. Or setting it beside my car when changing a tire in the rain.
2) In the last major power outage, we discovered we had no emergency lighting in the very dark bathrooms at work. Certain offices inside also had neither emergency lights nor windows. Again, having it handy means carrying it around in the trunk - and no chance to charge it up in advance. The ultra-long battery life should help here.
My backpacking preference is a mini-mag-light, so this lantern seems like a lot compared to that. However, it's nowhere near a white gas Coleman lantern. On the other hand, I'd let a 4-year-old take this LED lantern into the tent to look for his mittens.
I think this lantern fits into a "lighting system." It's much better than showering by candelight. You may want to pair it with a much stronger lantern if you intend to do significant work or cook something complicated after dark. Or a book light if you need to read at night while you're camping.

Comments about Mountain Green 30 LED Lantern:
I had this lantern in my emergency stash and had hoped to rely upon it when hurricane Gustav took out electricity. We are on our 5th day without power (I am now at an alternate location). I survived, but the lantern was basically useless except to keep you from tripping down the stairs. Too dim to read by. I think I will try to get a refune...

The light is not very light and not bright enough for my wife to read by.

Comments about Mountain Green 30 LED Lantern:
I bought this to use in the evenings while cleaning out the horse stalls and the light output is way to dim. Even when on the ground, I couldn't see what I was doing. Like somebody else mentioned, I am using this for emergencies only. It was way to pricey for what you get.

Comments about Mountain Green 30 LED Lantern:
I use this product in a small RV. This is a very well made light which goes astonishingly long on one cycle of NiMH batteries (I mean *really* long...weeks). However, like at least one other reviewer, I find light too dim for reading...and the difference between the two light settings is hardly noticable. Given the cost of this lantern, I would not buy again.

Comments about Mountain Green 30 LED Lantern:
A bit awkward to pack, and not bombproof.
We've relegated it to the closet with the power outage supplies.
Light is dispersed well but not very bright.

Comments about Mountain Green 30 LED Lantern:
Having moved to Colorado from hurricane country, I know lanterns. This thing is handy but not particularly bright and there's hardly a visible difference between the two brightness modes. It's great for a little ambient light around the tent when you're getting ready for bed, but I wouldn't read by it or use it to find a lost item. Might be great for telling ghost stories.

Comments about Mountain Green 30 LED Lantern:
I bought this for a summer camp that has no electricity in the cabins - I returned 2 other lanterns I bought elsewhere and tried because of poor light output. For someone with small hands, it is difficult to remove the bottom to insert the four batteries - but they lasted for a 3 week camp session plus the lantern is still bright. I highly recommend it for camping (not backpacking - it's heavy).

Great light. The batteries last forever and very good light output.
