Comments about Seirus Thick-N-Thin Headliner:

I got this from a well intended bro-in-law. Usually they give me something I would never use as I'm a very picky hiker/summiter/backpacker and everything I carry must serve at least two purposes.

On the way back from X-mas we were stopped by ice/ snow on the pass and while there I had to exit the warm car and help a ditched Hummer (karma). I was unprepared for the cold so I put on this piece. I was pleasantly surprised on how warm and useful it was. Kept my handsomely shaved head warm and kept my neck, ears, dimples all warm in just a sweater.

The top part is thin and breathable. Allows the sweat of action to wick away. It also blocks winds to about 20-25mph. If the weather is very cold or I'm sleeping (non-active) I will put on a light wool hat.
The lower part of this is polartec, feels like 200 weight. Can be very warm - too warm in active situations. I usually roll it up to a beanie then, when I stop I will pull it down to keep warm. The lower part is great for sleeping in. I hate zipping up my bag to mummy style due to minor claustrophobia. This piece works to keep my head and neck warm without burrowing into a stinky bag.
I wear this under a climbing helmet on the glaciers and it allows me to wear something lighter like a sweater since the balaclava covers the neck.

Biggest cons: The neck piece is to warm in all but a few resting situations, If I couldn't roll it into a beanie it would be worthless.

The whole things is not waterproof nor resistant. When it rains I break out the OR goretex sombrero.
When its cold this is a useful piece. Once the weather is above 45f toss it in the bucket for storage as the neck piece is just to warm.

If you're active it will become wet. Once you stop and cool off its cold & zaps your heat. Either layer over it to keep it warm or take it off.

It also needs some sort of odor control. Wearing this around your head/neck for 5 days around Rainier gets near causticly stinky!

If they made the top a Gore-tex paclite and the bottom a lighter, more breathable fleece it would be perfect.

For the right situations I would recommend this to a friend.
