Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and this rack works great! It was very easy to install. I have larger off road tires installed and feel that the rack will even accommodate oversized tires (within reason). I've heard others complain about it not fitting smaller frame, children's, or women's bikes. Yakima's Top Tube Adapter ($36) will solve that problem for any rack.My only advice while installing this rack is to make sure you are strong enough to lift the spare tire back onto your car. If not then you may want to have someone there to help
Service and delivery comments:
I ordered this online and was delivered to the store for pickup within 5 business days of ordering during the Christmas holiday season.

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
I bought this rack when I moved from WY to AZ. It was so simple to install and so easy to get my bike off each evening and morning to exercise my dog. Being an older woman (over 55), I like ease and I certainly had that!

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
A solid rack that was easy to install and a breeze to load the bikes on. Bikes do not move in the wind, over bumps or rough road. My last OVER the spare rack had me constantly looking in the rear view mirror to ensure my bikes were still on the rack. Required heavy rubber bungie straps to keep on the rack. This Thule requires one small bungie cord to secure the front wheel. That's it. A good value and the peace of mind is priceless!

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
I bought this bike rack -- my first -- last year when I got my FJ Cruiser and new Novara Bonita. I was able to install it by myself with no modifications. Surprised me as I'm one of those "know almost nothing about cars and tools" kind of chicks. I've lugged my bike to the Grand Canyon and Zion NPs at highway speeds with no slippage, worry or frustration.
It might not be for beach cruisers though. Tried to take a friend's cruiser to the beach for a ride and the rack tipped twice. Never happened with my bike alone.

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
Will not fit a FJ cruiser spare without modification. I had to grind down the mount that attaches behind the spare for it to fit. It still barely fits my 265/75/R17 tire. This would be perfect rack for a smaller tire. However, MOST vehicles with rear mounted spare tires are SUV's with big tires, Jeeps, Hummers, etc.

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
I have the largest stock tire you can fit on a dead stock 95' Jeep Wrangler 235/75R-15 so I can testify that the carrier works just fine on these tires with room to spare.
All bikes are a little different in how they fit on the rack, once you figure out your best positioning, which bike first etc then it works well and holds the bikes good no slipping or banging around at all.
Unless you have a hitch on your Jeep then this carrier is it for you.

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
Despite what others have said here and on other sites, I found that the 963 works fine on 2007 FJ Cruiser with the 17" spare tire. I wanted to get a spare tire mount instead of a hitch mount because 1) it's much less $, and 2) I prefer to leave the rack on the car all the time, and the spare mount is much less bulky than the Revolver or other hitch mounts.
Mounting the adapter to the spare tire mount went exactly according to the instructions. I did have to bleed some of the air out of the tire (from 50 psi to 35 psi) to get the rack to securely attach to the adapter, but once I did this the rack mounted without a problem, no grinding or other modification needed. This isn't a big deal, since I carry an air compressor in the car at all times, and the spare tire can be reinflated to proper pressure if needed.
I use the Yakima TopTube adapter, the Thule antisway accessory, and three bungy cords to attach my full suspension mtn bike to the rack. Rock-solid, no sway, no worries about the rack failing or the bike falling off. With this set up, my frame doesn't even touch the rack (the 963 interfaces with the TopTube, the antisway with the seatpost), so there are no scratches / potential for frame damage to be concerned about.
IMHO, this is the ideal set up for the FJ.

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
this product was easy to install on our van, but womens road bikes do not fit on the rack...purchased it the day before a camping trip. bullied the bikes onto it, while away I made some modifications to the cradles, but it was still difficult to get our bikes on. wound up cannibalizing a saris rack, the cradles are smaller, and it works fine now...hope thule, makes a modification...would not reccomend for womens bike use

Cool rack but cant put my bike on it .... Small frame mountain bikes, womens frames, kids bikes will not fit this rack.... the support bars are too far apart.
Dont buy unless you ride a reg. mens frame bike.

Comments about Thule Spare Me Trunk Rack:
I completely agree with Layton's review. I also had to grind it down slightly to fit on my FJ cruiser. It barely fits with a stock FJ tire size. That said, a bit of grinding made it snug, and it's extremely solid despite being a tight fit. I tried several other racks, and this one is the best I could find for the FJ. Once I got it installed well, I love it!
