Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
I bought this for a new Subaru Crosstrek (to fit the old Button-down 6 ski rack), since Yakima no longer makes vehicle-specific Mighty Mounts. Took a while to install the first time, just because of being unfamiliar with the procedure, and getting the fit just right. It's easy once you understand the steps though. They fit snugly to the factory aero crossbar using the smaller bail and small bolts. One drawback is the inability to lock the mounts, as they are designed to be unscrewed by hand. However, since the ski rack itself is lockable, a thief would need to steal the entire assembly, skis and all if the rack is locked. I actually bought a set of common hex nuts and washers for about a dollar at the hardware store, and installed these on the extra threading below the thumb wheel screws, and tightened them with a wrench. Now a thief would need at least an adjustable wrench to remove the hex nuts, so while it's still not theft-proof, it can't be stolen in a "crime of opportunity" by someone just walking by, if they aren't carrying tools.

Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
Fits my factory car rack. Only used to mount ski racks. Carried combination of 4 boards/2 boards and skis for two seasons without any issues. Mounts seem stable.

Great fix for our Pacifica that is hard to fit. Its great to see that a 15 year old basket gets a new life with new hardware.

Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
It's a jack of all trades, master of none solution that sort of works on your factory crossbars. More expensive than the dedicated mounts to boot. Generally poor fit on my car bothers me enough that it's going back to the store for refund. No, I would not recommend this product.

Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
Item description said these would grab the crossbars of virtually any factory-installed roof rack.... Refer to Fit List for size/shape of your vehicle.
Problem is that the choices for fitment did not include factory crossbars which attach to factory-installed rails (a choice in the Fit List). Fit List needs some work--crossbars. Don't know if these will fit. Also why do the mounts cost 40% of the Basketcase? Can you spell rip-off? If I'd known that the mounts would add that much to the price of the carrier I'd have made a more intelligent choice in the first place (if that's possible!). Picked up the Basketcase today. Good thing I didn't have travel plans for tomorrow. Now I've got to wait 2 more weeks for the very expensive (and fragile/unsafe, if one reads the review of this product) Mightymounts. What to do, what to do?

Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
This rack broke - on the highway - between the kayak J shape and the piece that attaches to the truck rack. That is, the clamp was still on my truck, the J portion hanging from my tie rope, and my kayak skidded down the highway.
The construction is to blame. The J portion is attached to the clamp with a bolt and a very tiny washer. The plastic cracked right around the bolt and washer allowing the J portion to fly off.
I don't know yet how the company will respond to my damaged kayak and dents on my new pathfinder. ( as it happened just yesterday) I'm relieved that no one was hurt.
One lesson learned - no matter how secure a rack LOOKS - never drive behind one.

Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
The only downside of this product was that I only needed qty. 6 and they come in qty. 4 boxes so I ended up with two extra's.
I was able to not only carry my wife and I's bike but also managed to clamp on my daughters as well. This is one tough clamping system.

Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
A severe windstorm ripped my kayak and attached hull raisers off the car. I had pulled off the road and was stationary. The tethers at bow and stern kept it from blowing away. Bolts ripped out of the glass reinforced nylon universal mighty mounts. Most disappointing was that Yakima did not answer my email inquiry on their web site.

Comments about Yakima Universal MightyMounts:
I bought these to put a King Corbra bike rack on a car ... once fitted I realized that the Universal Mounts (they don't make a regular mighty mount for my car yet) are 'limited' to a 30lb bike. Downhill bikes are over 40lbs and I would think that a company like Yakima would design their products to handle today's bikes. Very Disappointed!
