Comments about Equinox UL Tarp - 10 x 8:
I've used this tarp for several years for a wide variety of uses, pitching it in quite a few different configurations: Sleeping shelter for backpacking, sun & rain shelter on river trips, kitchen shelter, privacy shelter for river toilet, etc. As a sleeping shelter, it has a ton of room and sets up easily with trecking poles or tied to trees, and does well even in heavy winds if staked out carefully. You'll have to supply your own netting if you are worried about bugs. It is very waterproof. It is very light weight and fits neatly into the included lightweight mesh bag, making it very easy to throw it into most any pack for most any type of trip. It has proven to be very durable. You get a lot for your money. I recommend purchasing some cord and 6-8 lightweight aluminum stakes to go with it.

Comments about Equinox UL Tarp - 10 x 8:
This tarp is part of my shelter system in my 10 Essentials. If bugs are around, I add my REI Bug Hut 2 under the tarp for protection from the elements and bugs. The whole combination is pretty light. I use one of my hiking poles at the front, a little Kelty Triptease line, and some Vargo Outdoor Titanium Stakes to pull the whole combination together. Works great!

Comments about Equinox UL Tarp - 10 x 8:
After agonizing over the best sil-nylon tarp or poncho-tarp to complete my poor-man's ultra-light tent (REI bug hut plus tarp) I decided go with a dedicated sil-nylon tarp vs. a poncho-tarp, and I chose the Equinox over some of their more expensive competitors. (Integral Designs, etc.)
I haven't had a chance to try one of the more expensive siltarps, but I can say if I had it to do over again I would have spent the extra cash. The Equinox 8x10 has one main seam that runs through the middle of the tarp with 3 tie-outs attached. The seam is completely unsealed, and after a test with just some light misting from a garden hose the tarp was leaking like an old rusty bucket all along the seam, especially at the tie outs. It's definitely going to need seam sealer before its ready for any action.
The previously mentioned grommets held fine for my little backyard pitch & hose test, but they did look really stressed as they pulled worryingly against the super-thin silnylon tarp material. I'm about to take this tarp to SE Asia for six months, if the grommets make it back still attached to the tarp I will be very surprised, but who knows, maybe they're tougher than they look.
So other than the incredibly porous main seam and the very weak looking grommets this tarp is pretty much as advertised; waterproof, thin, and crazy light. I would advise anyone buying this tarp to go ahead and purchase seam sealant at the time you purchase the tarp. Maybe you should buy some ridgeline tie-outs and a sewing kit too.
Recommended, but only if you're handy and would rather invest a little, time, money and effort to save some cash.

Comments about Equinox UL Tarp - 10 x 8:
I have used this tarp in NY's Adirondack Mountains many times without fail. I use it with an Outdoor Research Bug Bivy and I stay dry and bug free. Pitched in an "A Frame" style and was dry in a downpour.

Comments about Equinox UL Tarp - 10 x 8:
First off, for what this is, its over priced. There are better tarps for lower price.
Its the most poorly made/designed tarp I have seen/used.
The corner gromets are weak, the net case ripped the first day I used it. The corners should be reinforced webbing.
