Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
I bought this tent because I needed a new 4-man tent and I liked the vestibule in the pic. I have two dogs who I take camping with me now. This is a VERY ROOMY 4-man tent. We called it the castle at our tent site! Took it out on a kayak trip for the first time, too heavy to carry long distance over rocky shores/campground. You need a large tent site. The poles are too heavy, maybe needed to hold this bad boy up. The pole sleeve for the vestibule was VERY tight. The fly didn't fit right, think we might have had a pole in the wrong place, which also caused one side of the tent to not sit flat on the ground. And the side where the fly doesn't go all the way down let a very CHILLY BREEZE come through in the middle of the night. Suggest before taking it on trip to "practice" setting it up and getting all the poles out and putting together to ensure the right poles go in the right sleeves. Once I do this, I'm going to mark the poles to show which one goes where for quicker setup. The "porch" isn't freestanding, you HAVE to use the guidelines. But thoroughly enjoyed having it. We setup a camp chair right next to door so you can sit down take muddy/wet shoes off and leave them in the porch area. Great area to clean off dogs paws before letting them into the main tent too - bonus!! You can easily setup 2 chairs in this area.

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
We purchased this tent for car camping, as we were already pleased with the Kelty brand because of the quality of our small Kelty tent which we use for kayak camping. The Green River 4 tent is well suited for car camping. It is easy to set up, and VERY roomy. Average sized adults can stand upright in it. I like the extra storage pockets and gear loft inside the tent, and I really like the design of the tent's main D-style door. It zips cleanly, with no excess material to get hung up in the zipper! The vestibule extension of the rain fly is a feature that we previously enjoyed with our other Kelty tent. Its a great place to leave dirty shoes or wet gear, and its nice to not get the inside of the main tent wet on rainy days while trying to enter/exit. However, the vestibule design for the Green River 4 could use some improvements!!!! The advertisement for this tent states it as being "freestanding" ~ While the main tent body is indeed freestanding, the vestibule IS NOT. Guy lines MUST be used to hold the vestibule in place. The sleeve for the vestibule pole is extremely TIGHT, making set-up/take-down of the fly a bit annoying. The interior shades for the vestibule windows are needed for privacy, but the shade for the vestibule door is rather annoying, in that the hook to keep it closed is not on the door itself, but on the next section. So in order to get out, the shade has to be unhooked in order to access the zipper. This isn't much fun in the wee hours of a cold morning when you need to get to the outhouse, and you have to run the obstacle coarse of door, shade, and door, in order to get OUT! Other than that, we are pleased with the tent. The lightweight material drys quickly and folds up nicely for packing. The carry bag is roomy, so you DON'T need to know origami in order to pack the tent back into it!

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
nice things--lots of headroom, generous room for four, "porch" is nice place to store wet raincoats, boots, etc.problems--fly pole sleeve is impossibly tight, the poles (fiberglass) are cheap (one of our pole sections cracked at one end w/in two uses, and the metal joiners fall off), the fly has a flat spot that collects water in moderate-heavy rain, not enough ventilation in the main tent, [...].hate to be a downer but this tent was a disappointing showing for the kelty brand.

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
I use this tent for sea kayak touring. My thinking is that it is easier to stay dry in a large tent. We used this tent for a two week expedition in Prince William Sound. It sets up quickly after you have had a bit of practice. It is very dry, although the vestibule sides are made of bug mesh and are not intended to be entirely dry. The tent is very large and I can stand up in it (I'm 5'10"). This is great for getting dressed, etc. The down side is finding a tent site large enough for it. The tent platforms at the Alaska State Parks are too small, so the vestibule is left hanging over open space, which actually works out just fine if there are trees around to tie it up to. Also, the poles are very heavy and two of them split down the center during the trip

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
I purchased a Kelty Green River 6 tent (if you notice REI is no longer selling it for 2008) and a matching footprint at the recommendation of [...]during early part of 2008. Both [...] claimed the tent manufacturer and the actual tent were great quality and workmanship. We arrived at our camping location and attempted to set up the tent. The female portion of one poles was split open preventing that portion of the tent to be supported properly. The fly zipper got suck numerous times to the point that we thought the fabric was going to tear. Some sort of clear coating on the pole sleeve part of the tent cracked and began to flake off. The supposed matching footprint was improperly marked by REI, was for a different Kelty model tent, and too small for the tent. I returned the tent and footprint to REI. Two different[...] then told me Kelty is REI's entry level tent and they would not have recommended Kelty or the Green River tent and would have suggested a different tent manufacturer and tent model.THANKS REI ! Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
i got this tent for the family because i was in search of a large vestibule... there are 2 adults and 3 little kids. we all fit comfortably inside (with only thermarests and bags, no cots/mattresses) with room to spare... when dad gets too hot, he can even sleep in the vestibule because it is so large! the poles can be hard to get in the sleeves because they are so long. overall, a great tent!

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
the tent is a great size for a growing family. However, when the fly is on there are no interior windows to zip up or leave open... so you do not get a good cross ventilation

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
Great tent for car camping. A little hard to set up. Sometimes have a hard time getting those poles in and out. The thing I like most is that it has a "front porch" I can use to take off my hiking shoes.

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
Took this tent for our first family camping trip in the Payson rim area. We put it together first in our living room (highly recommended) and figured out the rainfly. Once we were up in the campsite we had our tent setup in 10 minutes.
It's very roomy inside for myself, wife and 7 year old. We even put our dog & crate in the vestibule area. We were also able to stand up inside to change clothes and move around (I'm 6'0) which was nice.
I like the ventilation and being able to look at the stars at night. That was until it started to rain, so we put on the rainfly and extended the area for our dog. It took just a few minutes. We were comfortable and stayed dry.
I would recommend this tent for anyone needing comfortable space and a well designed tent for car camping.

Comments about Kelty Green River 4 Tent:
I bought this tent when the family became too large for our old one. It has been a great tent, especially on those days when the weather keeps you in-tent. I have had 5 people in it comfortably with room to squeeze in a sixth, or a couple dogs. The large rain fly allows you to have a screened in porch on your tent, which in Alaska is a big plus. I have taken it on a long backpacking weekend (as a test) with the bag compressed in a stuff sack, but it is heavy and not recommended. The poles alone are too heavy for anything other than a short short hike or car camping. If you plan to car camp and there is a chance for bad weather, this will make it as comfortable as possible.
