Designed for stability, ease of use and laid-back style, the Electra Townie® 3 is a great bike for the novice rider looking for a fun cruiser.

  • Flat Foot Technology™ combines a slightly rearward riding position with a chainset mounted forward of the seatpost
  • Result is low center of gravity and full leg extension, which combine to increase comfort and pedaling torque compared to many comfort-category bikes
  • Also, low center of gravity lets riders sit on the bike with their feet flat on the ground, providing unsure riders stability during starts and stops
  • Shimano Nexus internal 3-speed rear hub provides smooth, intuitive shifting; great for light riding around town and the RV park or along the promenade
  • Ergonomic, shock-absorbing Townie saddle softens the affect of bumps in the road
  • Adjustable seat post and handlebar stem let you dial in the fit for nothing but comfort (with so much adjustability, one size fits most people)
  • Total convenience: Platform pedals require no special shoes, and the full-length chainguard keeps dirt and oil off the legs of your pedal pushers
  • Semi-slick 26x1.9 tires provide a smooth and stable ride over a variety of riding surfaces
  • Front linear-pull hand brakes provide controlled deceleration

After an initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Electra Townie 3i Bike:

Just picked up my new Townie 3i and the brakes made a horrible noise. Took it back within the hour. The shop thought maybe the brakes were just new. But I have a Trek with the same Nexus Inter-3 that makes the same horrible noise. (never got around to taking it in.) Went to the shop that sold me the Trek several years ago. They say the Inter-3 is not well constructed. Claim they see a lot of this problem and it cannot be fixed. The hub must be replaced. Called the shop that sold me the Townie to give them a heads up. If they can't replace the hub, I want my money back. But I have to say, the bike looks and handles great!

Comments about Electra Townie 3i Bike:

Bought this bike for my wife since she gripes about her the comfort of my mountain bikes. This bike was the ticket for her and for the price I couldn't have asked for a better bike. I would recommend this bike for those that want to get out but don't want to go all out and for someone that finds it difficult and uncomfortable to ride a road or mountain bike.
