Comments about Rock Climbing: Mastering Basic Skills:

Its a very easy read. Well organized and structured, covered everything i needed to know when i was a new climber and still serves as a good refresher on many areas of sport and trad. It goes hand in hand with much of the private instruction i have received aswell.

Comments about Rock Climbing: Mastering Basic Skills:

There is no substitute for the personal instruction of a competent climber, but to get the most out of a class or time with a guide I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the subjects before hand and if you are beginning to climb with a recreational climber that claims to be experienced it is your responsibility to be able to evaluate their safety and knowledge. There is simply not a more comprehensive introduction to climbing on the market. This book is accessible and my copy continues to be reread and cross referenced year after year. If you purchase this book it will likely be the first one you grab when you need to refresh or check up on your technique.

This book taught me everything I need to know about climbing in general. I talks about ropes, knots, belay devices and how to use them, anchors, cams, crack climbing, and lead climbing.
