Comments about Yakima Q Towers - Set of 4:
Bought it in 2002 for 2003 Honda Accord because of apparent easy on/off feature. Bad idea. Impossible to adjust, it never sat right. Brackets always moving and scratching the car paint to the metal with the load of just one bike. Car roof sides that get bent eventually if you tighten it well.
Fed up with this, I bought new brackets for my old Thule, installed it in 5 minutes and it is rock solid.

Comments about Yakima Q Towers - Set of 4:
I bought 4 towers to install on my 2007 Corolla, along with the correct clips. Only two of towers fit well enough to be locked. The other two were misaligned by about 1/4 inch and the lock could not engage. I exchanged the bad towers and had the same problem again. Convinced it was my fault (although I checked all measurements and instructions several times), I took the rack to REI for professional installation. They ALSO had to replace two bad towers to make it fit. So, it took 10 towers to find 4 usable ones.[...]Yakima's online help was fairly quick, but I would have tried a Thule system if I had know the headache the Q Towers would cause.

Comments about Yakima Q Towers - Set of 4:
I've been suffering from Rack Envy nearly 10 years now. I've tried everything but nothing seemed to help. Finally REI offered me the cure...the Yakima 20% off Sale! So we took the plunge this weekend.
The tensioning system on these towers is quite precise and the"feet" from the Q-Clips grab on and hold tight.
My new black Honda Civic looks 37% cooler with these bad boys riding on top. We drove in 3 states this weekend--high winds, cross winds, cold and warm temps. Through it all the rack stayed rock solid. 4 road bikes on 4 Forklift carriers (mounted in alternating directions) rode well. In the high winds (35-40mph) gas mileage suffered 20%, but the rest of the time, it's only a slight dip. With the fairing, wind noise is very slight. Don't forget to consider overhead clearance, but we did not find a situation we had to avoid, even most drive-thrus now have higher clearance these days.

Comments about Yakima Q Towers - Set of 4:
Purchased this product back in 2005 for a 05 Scion TC, Also has been on a 94 Subaru Impreza, 07 Toyota Tacoma and now a 02 Toyota Camry. Cannot complain about its all around use. However did leave minor scratches on the car it was first purchased for. Would however highly recommend for any new buyer. Strong stability and very secure.

These Q Clips stand up to the rough & tough wear & tear that I can dish out on them. They really hold up. I've had them on my trucks for years!

Comments about Yakima Q Towers - Set of 4:
I purchased this as a kit with the q99 clips for my 2010 Honda Fit. I really wanted to like this rack. I thought it was cleanest looking setup, and I liked the selection of yakima accessories available so it seemed like a no-brainer. I also thought the design would make it relatively easy to remove when I wasn't using it.
The initial setup was fairly straightforward, especially with help of the youtube video provided by rackattack. I followed the measurements to a T and everything seemed to go smoothly, until I tried to attach to rack to the car. First of all, it is very difficult to make sure that on each side of the car the cam bolts on the towers are tightened equally, since they sit very sloppily inside the tower (just play with the q-tower at your local store and you will see what I mean.) The little marker guides on the towers are also useless, because the feet shift around on the roof while you are trying to mount it making it extremely difficult for you to center the rack and ensure each side is equally tightened. The rubber pads that come along with the clips are also like mush, and if you have a curved roof like on the Fit, they shift when you clamp the towers down.
So after finally torquing the cam bolts down tightly, I triple checked all of my measurements and did the safety checks recommended by yakima which include pulling hard on the clips and bars and checking for any play. When I pulled on the clips, they made some noise, so I released the cam and tightened a half turn at a time until the noise stopped. By the time the noise finally stopped and the towers felt secure, I looked at the setup and noticed something very peculiar - the crossbar appeared to be bowed. I took my level and ran it along the bar, and sure enough, clamping the towers down caused the crossbar to slightly bow. I concluded that this was unacceptable, given that the tower is attached to the bar with only a single bolt and clamp, and if this mechanism were to slip while underway, the whole rack would likely fail.
I bet this setup works fine on other cars, but for the reasons mentioned above, it seems that this is a very poor setup for the Honda Fit. I'm returning it and hope to try out the Thule to see if it is any better.

Comments about Yakima Q Towers - Set of 4:
Install was not too hard, I think it would be if you don't do manual labor. I specifically use it to carry my 10' longboard (and other surfboards, stacked)on the highway. Works like a charm. Would be perfect if Yakima offered aerodynamic bars instead of having to add a fairing.

Comments about Yakima Q Towers - Set of 4:
I had the Yakima Roof Rack System on several cars for many years, and it's been great. I've only needed to buy different clips when I got a new car. I had two Steelhead bike racks, a fairing, and two wheel forks. Everything locked to the car with the Yakima lock cores.
I left everything on my car (except the bike) because it looked sporty. Also, because it's a pain to take off and then re-install for every trip because of the measurements for placement.
Some thief took the whole setup from the top of my car by prying it off with a screw driver or something similar. The locks will not prevent a determined thief from taking this rather large investment. My car was in the body shop for a week getting fixed. What a pain!
