This isn't the first Lodge product I've purchased and definitely won't be the last. Make sure you season it appropriately, we used flaxseed oil, even if they say they've already seasoned it.

    Rated5out of5byfromYou'll be a hero!Awesome! I have made at least dozen meals in this thing since I bought it. Anything from cowboy stew to gourmet angus beef meals. I don't know what took me so long to try dutch oven cooking. My favorite use is in cold weather camping (I do a ton of it) and there's nothing better than lifting the lid and seeing the steam rise off of a delicious stew or a trio of cornish game hens drenched in gravy. The first time your camp mates see and have a meal out of this oven, you'll be a hero. It's easy to clean, easy to store, and it's fun to re-season. One tip I would have is to use Flaxseed Oil when you re-season it. It has a 500 degree smoke point and can stand up the the torching of a campfire. Enthusiastically recommend!

    Rated5out of5byfromBig and AwesomeThis is nothing new folks. Dutch Ovens have been around for centuries and provide an easy way to cook bulk meals. This Lodge Dutch Oven is no different. It does come pre-seasoned (specially coated and infused with cooking oils to prevent rusting and enhance flavor), so it is ready to cook with. Lodge offers these ovens in various sizes. I have this 8 qt and a 4 qt. The 8 quart i use when camping/cooking for large groups. You can make enough food in an 8 qt oven for 10 people. I use the 4 qt oven for my family of 4 and we usually have some to spare. Don't think bigger is better because you want the oven to be as full as possible for a more even heat when cooking. You will be putting hot coals under the oven and on the lid to spread heat. The bigger dutch ovens such as this 8 qt one offer more versatility than the smaller ones. You can roast chickens, pork loins, beef loins, and bake bread and even small pizzas. Be sure to purchase 3 much needed accessories: Lid Lifter, Lid Stand, and Tongs. The lid lifter does just that, lifts a very hot piece of cast iron. The lid stand has two purposes (holding the lid and keeping it clean and free of dirst, and using the lid upside down to fry eggs or make pancakes, griddle style). The tongs are needed to move coals around to evenly distribute heat. Watch videos on cooking with dutch ovens.. There are many recipes out there. enjoy!

    Rated5out of5byfromHeavy, but awesome.This dutch oven is awesome for cooking large stews, soups, or large sides of meat. Google Sheryl Canter's "Chemistry of Cast Iron Seasoning: A Science-Based How-To" for the VERY BEST way to re-season and/or thicken the seasoning on cast iron.
