
The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

This dutch oven is awesome for cooking large stews, soups, or large sides of meat. Google Sheryl Canter's "Chemistry of Cast Iron Seasoning: A Science-Based How-To" for the VERY BEST way to re-season and/or thicken the seasoning on cast iron.

I own a quite a few pieces of Cast Iron Cookware and am an aficionado of Lodge, Wagner, Griswold products. For the money and the quality, there is no better Dutch Oven in my mind. It was preseasoned, cleans up easy, and does not rust. Highly recommended.

This is great for car camping. Lodge Dutch ovens are awesome. Yes, it is heavy, but cast iron is. I really like cooking with this oven. Not too difficult to season or clean. The 8 qt size is pretty big and filled with chili or stew will easily feed ~10 or so folks, just don't forget the cornbread... ;)

The Lodge 8-quart is far more versatile than the smaller 6-quart. It's extra depth allows deep frying, baking and larger portions of stews and even whole chickens. The difference in weight is negligible.
In my Boy Scout Troop, we make pies, cakes, stews, cornish hens, pizza . . . you name it! If you can bake it at home, you can bake it in camp! For stews, soups and chili, you can use the pot on a propane stove as a 'regular' dutch oven (just be sure of the clearance around the burner for the legs) with or without coals on top.
With this deeper oven, I use an inverted pie pan under cakes, pies and pizzas to keep them nearer the center of the oven for even heating and never a burned bottom. For the pizza, we give each boy a sheet of foil about 18" wide and the dough (or ready-made shell) and let them prepare their own pie to their liking . . . the foil then gets put right into the oven with the longer side crimped right into the lid, making it easy to remove AND clean up after!
There's a reason these pots have been in use since colonial times, they are even-heating, easy to maintain, and versatile nearly to a fault!
