Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker - Low:

I'm a size 10 foot that's on the wide side, and these socks are still too big. I've washed and dried them several times, but they still bunch up in my merrell's. I've used them a half-dozen times, and if I'm doing any kind of big hike w/ 15+ pounds in my pack my feet just start burning in the ball area (the first sign of blisters coming). I just took these on a backpacking trip and had to swith mid-hike to my nasty/stinky smartwool's from the day before b/c I could just feel the blisters coming. I guess it's just me, as these got 4.5 stars from 8 other reviewers, but I'm definitely dissapointed in these socks. I'll still wear them for shorter hikes, but they are no better than the athletic socks I bought from a cheap retail chain. If you want quality buy some smartwool's. I didn't get a blister w/ the smartwool's even though I bushwhacked up steep scree with a 45 pound pack for 4 miles.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker - Low:

Sizing for these socks is off by a size - they are too big. When looking at the sizing information before making my purchase I was a solid medium and that's what I ordered and these are definitely too big. I would never wear them to hike in (unless maybe they fit properly), however, they work for everyday use in the winter with the boots that I wear almost daily and they seem to regulate temps/wick moisture ALMOST as well as other merino wool socks. I purchased these same socks about 5 years ago and they were high quality and sized perfectly and they are still going strong. I wish I had bought more at that time and I wish REI would switch back to the quality of these older socks!!! I would only recommend these to a friend if they were aware of the sizing issue!

If I could afford to, I would wear these and only these.

    Highly recommend.

Would be nice if they came in 1 or 2 more colors.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker - Low:

I live in the mountains and needed several good pair of socks. (I hate going to the city so I wanted several pairs to get me around for at least a year.) I wear a 10.5 - 11.5 shoe and if I recall correctly got these as a Med size and they fit me snug and perfectly.
I've had these for several years as my day to day sock (they are the only type of sock I own) and they haven't loosened or stretched at all. They are wearing thin from use, but that's my wear and tear.
They also dry fast... I just love these socks,, as much as somebody could love 'socks' I suppose.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker - Low:

I thought these would be nice for an early Sept hike in the Bitterroots but I was way off. First of all, size L fits more like XL and I wear an 11.5 shoe. That was probably the cause of the awful bunching problem I experienced. I had to stop 4 times on a 10 mile hike to take my shoe off and rearrange the socks, unfortunately I didn't bring any back up socks with me. What's more, a small hole appeared in the left hand side of the toe seam, I noticed this the first time I rearranged the socks. By the time I finished with my hike it was a full blown hole, so I got some nice toenail on shoe action for the last mile or so. Based on this experience (and my experience with the Organic Merino socks, which was just as bad) I will probably never buy REI socks again.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker - Low:

I bought this sock for hiking and liked it so much I bought a few more pair (the low and high style), I bought a couple pair today in fact. The only thing I don't like is the sock shrinks after wash--they are wool after all.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker - Low:

I bought these socks to use more for daily wear than hiking. Now I will be buying more for daily wear and start using them on hikes! Each time I put these on my feet feel like they are saying "Thank you".

These are replacing white socks for daily wear as they are just so comfortable - especially with my Keen sandels. I have never had a wool sock like this before and they exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be buying more. Excellent sock for the money!

These are my favorite socks. Every time I place an order with REI I order a pair. Really comfortable and durable. I haven't had a pair wear out yet and these are pretty much all I wear. The no-seam toe feels really good and I never get blisters with these great socks! Highly recommended!

Comments about REI Merino Wool Light Hiker - Low:

Comfortable, insulative (warm when you need it, but they won't warm up your feet when working out), durable, and less expensive than SmartWool. What more could you want? The shorter length makes them great for warmer weather and when wearing lower cut shoes or boots. My everyday socks during warmer weather.
