Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
I commute all the time and have found this bag to be great for commuting. It will hold my usual paraphernalia and a set of clothes for the day, plus lunch. On occasion I've even carried a laptop, though I don't recommend this as the panniers are not really well suited for that. This bag has been on my bike for about four years now. After about two years the zippers began to fail. I gotta say, this is a pet peeve of mine, so a mini rant... Topeak has built a pretty good piece here and charges about a hundred bucks for it. Here's the deal - no matter how good you make a piece of gear, or where you make it, if you put junk zippers in the gear then the gear is near useless when the zippers blow up.If anybody at any gear maker is listening - PUT YKK ZIPPERS ON YER STUFF! We'll pay the premium of another $5 so that our gear isn't rendered useless when the cheap [*] zippers give up!Rant over.Good gear, just don't expect that it will last a lifetime.Tom

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
I wish it were waterproof but otherwise it is perfect for a commuter. The quick disconnect is invaluable and the side panniers mean you never have to second-guess how much you can take with you. The moveable interior compartment divider is handy and they weren't exaggerating when they said the thick walled padding can provide insulation and protection for your items.

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
This thing is amazing! Its light enough so i can use it on my road bike, but rugged and secure enough i can use it on a mountain bike on the trail! I use this to commute to and from school, work, and sometimes the grocery store so I don't have to use a backpack. The zip down panniers are perfect to hold all my books and papers, and the main compartment holds a change of clothes and a lunch, bike lock and multi-tool with extra room. And since it slides right off the rack (only with the compatible topeak one) i can bring it with me when i go in the office so it doesn't get stolen. The only issue i have found is that the zippers on the main compartment always gets stuck when I zip u the corners. so I have to sometimes force free. But overall another quality item from topeak.

I really like this bag. This bag is perfect to carry a change of clothes and shoes to work, a laptop and a few books, or for a small trip the grocery store.
While the material seems well suited for the commuter, I was surprised (unpleasantly) that the bag had lightweight, plastic zippers. I feel I must be gentle in zipping the bag open and closed because I don't want them to break.
The issue with the zippers is my only complaint. Otherwise, it perfect for my use.

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
I love this bag. @ first I wanted to go bigger, but then, I have a pack for that, and if I am carrying tons of gear, I would have the full-on panniers, and that is not what this bag is for! I love the water resistant fabric = negates needing rain covers. (Come to think of it, if the bag did have a pull-out seat cover for when U R parked, that would be nice.) LOVE, the inner velcro wall to compartmentalize and it can stash away if I don't need it. I have taken the one out of my camera bag to add more chambers. The little loop for a flasher is great, just wish it had side daisys for the same thing, or for bundgies if you are not using the Topek rack. It could use some reflective tape. U need to be seen in the murky Seattle environs. The panniers velcro into the sides, but because the panniers are sewn into the top, you lose use of the side cases. I found that if you unzip the top zipper, and then use the velcro strap to hold the bag open, you can use the side cases for small items on both sides if you don't need to deploy the whole pannier, zip the bag for added security, and off you go! Crafty. Buy this bag. You won't be sorry using it for what it was intened. Cheers, ~S~

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
A daily bike commuter, I needed a means for carrying my work attire as well as layers shed on the afternoon return trip. The main compartment is adequately sized for survival gear like lunch, cell phone, iPod and a road repair kit. Personally, I don't find the bag itself all that heavy but it would be pretty easy to overload it with dense items.
My primary issue has been with the stitching on the top back of both panniers. The panniers can be full of clothing (but not explodingly so) on days when it's 20 degrees in the AM and 60 in the afternoon. Still, the stitching has failed after less than a year and I'll have to return the item for replacement.
One tip is to physically push up on the bottom of the MTX QuickTrack button after sliding the bag on the track to ensure that it is completely locked in place. Mine does not completely close on its own every time and I once sprinted from a changed-to-green light only to hear my trunk bag bouncing in the center of the intersection behind me.

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
I commute to work and school (both in the same day sometimes) and this pack has been the most helpful accessory I've found for my needs.
This setup will typically hold my work clothes, notebooks, lunch, laptop and bike repair kit, all at once.
It's also very handy for carrying a light load of groceries.
The quick attachment clip and mounting rail make it very secure even when I've got a heavy load.
It's waterproof enough for moderate rain and durable enough that my laptop survived inside the padded main compartment when the bike tipped over.

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
I've only had this trunk a few days and have used it twice. The first time was to carry a few small items for a 20-mile ride--change of clothes, book, wallet and water bottle. As mine did not come with a bottle holder, I experimented with using the bungy on top of the bag (bottle leaked) and standing it upright in the bag and securing it with the zippers and bungy. The second test worked great, as long as there was room enough in the bag. I think it would be handier to have the holder on the outside, like the image depicts.
The second time I used it was to do some light grocery shopping. I was able to bring home a bottle of wine, a frozen pizza, two small quiches, a pound of cheese, and two half-gallon cartons (milk & OJ). This was using the panniers only. I easily could have fit a number of items in the main compartment as well.
I gave the "bulky" con on a whim, just because it would be great if the trunk could fold down a bit when not in use. However, if that were to render it less durable, I'd be less in favor of that option.
It remains to be seen just how much the panniers can hold (in weight), as they seem a bit flimsy to me. But, so far, so good.

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
I commute about 12 miles/day. I am a teacher. This product easily holds my laptop, a change of clothes, papers to be graded, more than enough space. My only critique of the product is the string that attaches the pannier to the rack ripped off first time I used it. Made up something to make it work pretty easily though.
I do not notice the extra weight when riding and like the comfort of not having a back pack.

Comments about Topeak MTX TrunkBag EXP with Zip-Down Panniers:
My family gave me this for father's day. I commute by bike to work every day and used a backpack before I got this. This bag is easy to install/remove. It's quickly expandable when necessary. I guess it can be considered heavy if it's packed hard, but it hasn't bothered me at all. It even repels light rain. I'd recommend it very much. It would be nice to have a key holding bracket inside, but no other complaints. I've also mountain biked in hard trails with it and haven't noticed any issues, yet.
