    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

    • NOW PLAYING

A stable bike built for small, developing riders, the Hawaii 16-inch girls' bike suits a very young lady's sensibiities.

    • With a single speed and coaster brake, the child-size Hawaii is simplicity itself; there are no shifters and hand brakes to concern a new rider
    • Floral graphics on the frame, fenders and chainguard suit a young lady's sensibilities; she'll find them on the spring-cushioned saddle as well
    • Integrated coaster brake is both effective and intuitively simple to use—just have her pedal in reverse
    • Low step-through frame accommodates a wide range of sizes and makes mounting and dismounting saddle quick and easy
    • Sturdy steel frame withstands all sorts of abuse; metal chain cover and fenders help protect child from grime and moving parts
    • Removable training wheels make learning easy and do wonders for a child's comfort level
    • Ergonomic saddle helps balance the child atop the bike in comfort; handlebar design accommodates an upright ride and enhances control
    • Wide balloon tires enhance stability and traction

Fitting an Electra bike is easy. Start by setting the saddle to its lowest position and then stand over it with both feet flat on the ground. Next, simply raise the saddle until it rests in the crotch. Tighten it in place, and that's it— you're done! After an initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Electra Hawaii 1 16-Inch Girls' Bike - 2012:

After finding many cheap quality bikes, I came across the Electra Bike for my daughter's third B-Day. She is smitten by pink/Princess Barbie.....it was love at first site. The one downside, for a 28 lb, 3' 2", 3-year old was the weight of the bike (approx 28 lbs). Although it's a very smooth drive, she had some difficulty establishing forward momentum. But, once there it's all smiles. Further, if your child is short there is likely to be an issue reaching the peddles. My daughter was just tall enough, at the seats lowest possible setting. I'd say great bike for 3.5 yrs +.

Comments about Electra Hawaii 1 16-Inch Girls' Bike - 2012:

My daughter uses this daily for rides in the neighborhood- She will even bike more than 3 miles to daycare on it and its holding up well. She loves the pink. I love that its not Princess and better made than many other children's bikes.
Downsides? Its heavy and not as adjustable as I'd hoped.

My daughter had had a runbike before this bike and I was hoping we'd skip training wheels. While that might have been possible with a bike with different geometry it didn't work with this one. I was drawn to Electra because of their "flat foot technology" for adult bikes; I reasoned if she could sit on the seat and put her feet down, she'd be ready to ride. Unfortunately, while the bike fit her at 3 and 1/2, her toes could barely reach the ground. No flat feet technology on this one. A little after age 4 we did take the training wheels off, and the weight does help the bike's stability.
