Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
This is my first fitness oriented GPS unit and I love it for what it does, what it weighs and the easy of its set up and use. Prior to purchasing the Forerunner 301 I would put my Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx in my fanny pack and head off either on a run or on my bike. It does a good job at mapping and tracking but lacked the heart monitor and the easy of simply looking down at my wrist for instant feed back. Plus it is a brick compare to the Forerunner 301. This unit does everything Garmin claims it will and after numerous excursions with it I can’t believe I ever ran without it.
One thing I don’t like is the extended time it takes to triangulate the satellites, but I’ve learned to use this time to actually do some stretching that I normally would have skipped on. Great product for the price that is for sure

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
I run with this GPS 3 to 4 times a week and have used it in runs as long as 26.2 miles. I am very happy with its performance. It does take a few minutes to aquire satellites; I turn on the unit while I get ready for my run then strap it on my wrist on the way out the door. I live in a rural area so don't have to contend with tall buildings; I do occassionally get a 'weak signal gap' when I run by a row of tall trees in the summer. If you are looking for a GPS unit to use in forrests on in a big city this might not be the one for you.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
I use this on trails in Colorado and, once I got used to the slightly bulky feel on my wrist, I've enjoyed using it. I've had mine since it first came out, and I've rarely had any problems with losing signal. I like the fact that I can use rechargeable or alkaline batteries.
The incline report is pretty useless, as it varies wildly over a few seconds. I use the pace-averaging function, and I like the automatic rest time and distance reports.
I do wish there were more options for the display, but I find it to be a simple way to track pace and distance on unmarked trails (which are most of them). For races, I usually use my iPod Nano with the Nike iPod+, as I get more accurate pace information plus music.
For trail running and hiking, I like the Garmin Forerunner 101, even though the newer ones are sleeker.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
Takes a long time to gain a signal, then looses signal often providing very inaccurate info to user. Can not depend on it.

I don't know why more people don't use this for biking. VERY handy on long trips, or for training on a cycle. Also useful for running. I've had the 201 for years, and am now buying 101 to take on European bike trip so I don't have to carry charger/converter.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
This product does not work well under trees or in dense vegetation. Otherwise it is a great tool for running.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
While I love the idea of an inexpensive way to track the milage and pace of my runs, I found that it was often very difficult to get a signal, both in the city and the country, and I often end up walking around with my arm in the air for 5 minutes before I can begin my run. If I were to buy it again, I would upgrade the model for better reliability.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
While the small size of this unit is convenient, you pay a price in the reliability of GPS reception. Under even sparse tree cover, this unit will not be able to lock onto a GPS signal.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 101:
I love this product. It gives me good measurements when it captures the GPS signal.
That said, it is easy to create a shadow that blocks the signal: buildings, lots of trees, a hill.
I sometimes have to hold my hand up high for this unit to catch the signal.
I hope the newer versions have stronger signal reception.
