Comments about REI Tuff Lite Compression Sack - 9 x 21:
I had high hopes for these compression sacks (I bought this one and the 7" X 17" bag) because of the high quality I've experienced with other REI gear. But I was disappointed.
I didn't realize just how narrow the bore of the bag is until I started trying to pack up some gear. The small diameter isn't necessarily a flaw, but it can limit the gear you pack inside (more so than just about every other compression sack I've used).
The drawstring and seams around the opening are not very stout and thus requires a bit of care in closing a full bag to keep from ripping the drawstring right out of the seam. Also the spring-loaded button that keeps the opening closed (I'm sure there is a name for that thing) is too weak to keep much tension on the cord.
However, the biggest flaw is the lack of volume reduction possible with this bag. The absolute maximum the bag can compress is about 5 inches. This is because the cloth ends of the bag extend too far towards each other. So with a fully-loaded bag, when the end caps are in place there is only about 5" of strap between them.
The result is that it's difficult to fully load the bag (because of the deficient drawstring) compounded by the inability of the bag to compress the under-packed bag before you pull the straps until the end caps meet. For me, not being able to compress fluffy gear with a compression sack defeats the purpose.
The only up-side is that they are quite a bit cheaper than the nearest bag of similar size.

Comments about REI Tuff Lite Compression Sack - 9 x 21:
The worst sack ever:
First flaw: The draw string is way to thin and when you try to sinch it up and you have a big sleeping bag in the sack it loses up. Good thing I had some nylon cord to fix the problem.
Seconed flaw: The straps that tighten up the sack are not tightly ancord to the bag when you tighten them up like I did today it just came out of the bag and hang there and mock you.
So I Still love REI gear just not there bags.

Comments about REI Tuff Lite Compression Sack - 9 x 21:
I have three of the stuff sacks. The Medium fits my MSR Hubba Hubba and I use a Large for my REI Polar Pod Sleeping Bag and another for clothing.
Although the draw string is a bit weak it hasn't created any issues when using it. The straps pull down tightly and usually it is the items inside preventing me from pulling them all the way down, rather than lack of cord like some of the other reviews mentioned.
Overall it works great for the price and I have had no problem with them on several backpacking trips and they work as good as the day I bought them.
