Comments about REI Tuff Lite Compression Sack - 7 x 17:
I had high hopes for these compression sacks (I bought this one and the 9" X 21" bag) because of the high quality I've experienced with other REI gear. But I was disappointed.
I didn't realize just how narrow the bore of the bag is until I started trying to pack up some gear. The small diameter isn't necessarily a flaw, but it can limit the gear you pack inside (more so than just about every other compression sack I've used).
The drawstring and seams around the opening are not very stout and thus requires a bit of care in closing a full bag to keep from ripping the drawstring right out of the seam. Also the spring-loaded button that keeps the opening closed (I'm sure there is a name for that thing) is too weak to keep much tension on the cord.
However, the biggest flaw is the lack of volume reduction possible with this bag. The absolute maximum the bag can compress is about 5 inches. This is because the cloth ends of the bag extend too far towards each other. So with a fully-loaded bag, when the end caps are in place there is only about 5" of strap between them.
The result is that it's difficult to fully load the bag (because of the deficient drawstring) compounded by the inability of the bag to compress the under-packed bag before you pull the straps until the end caps meet. For me, not being able to compress fluffy gear with a compression sack defeats the purpose.
The only up-side is that they are quite a bit cheaper than the nearest bag of similar size.

Comments about REI Tuff Lite Compression Sack - 7 x 17:
The webbing ends are not sewn with large enough back flaps to keep the material from sliding through the buckles. The webbing is also not large enough to keep from twisting or even knotting up at times. My old Granite Gear compression sack is lightweight while being heavy duty. The material in this product is tough and light but the buckling mechanism ruins the product value.

Comments about REI Tuff Lite Compression Sack - 7 x 17:
I bought this compression sack to reduce the size of my motorcycle rain gear. It can be compressed to about 50% of it's original size. The bag is very lightweight and well constructed. The only con is that it's kinda difficult to pack large garments through its narrow opening, but I can live with that.

Comments about REI Tuff Lite Compression Sack - 7 x 17:
I am amazed that I can squish my rather bulky and heavy sleeping bag into a compact bullet in this stuff sack. I've taken it through the mountains on several trips with no problems. My friend did have a seam bust where the strap attaches, but exchanged it for another and has had no further trouble.
