  • Tainted water within the bottle flows through three purifying stages by squeezing the soft plastic bottle
  • First-stage filter removes large sediment and disagreeable odors
  • Second-stage cyst filter traps protozoa in a web of glass fiber
  • Third-stage ViruStat microbial cartridge kills bacteria and deactivates viruses with iodinated resin
  • Liter size fits neatly in the pocket of your pack; spout snaps shut for dripless transportation
  • Polyethylene is 100% BPA free

This personal water purification system eliminates the need to carry or locate safe water, whether you are hiking, traveling abroad or contending with a flood or other emergency. Only Exstream places an EPA-registered microbial purification cartridge into a standard sport flask. The result is a personal hydration system that provides complete anti-microbial protection against cysts, bacteria and viruses. It is recommended that the ViruStat Cartridge be changed after 125 refills. Change the Cyst and Pre/Post Filters when water flow becomes constricted.

by fromNot as easy as claimed! Read the other low reviews before you buy! Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I had the same problem pumping water - any 2 of the 3 filters work, but with all 3 in, it takes so much pressure that water comes out between the bottle and cap. [...] I guess that wasn't a good idea...

by fromPretty useless Purchased for hiking in Glacier Park. I ended up leaving it at home. I spent 2 days, off and on, attempting to complete the "priming" process as described in the printed instructions. It requires filling and pushing through the internal filter 2 full bottles of water. Sounds simple enough. I'm a pretty strong person and found this task incredibly difficult. I ended up actually straining muscles in the process - thus I left the system at home and am probably going to toss it. In addition there is a small plastic "button" which caps the vent hole in the cap. This tended to fall out and get caught up in the internal filter. I called the company - no one home. I e-mailed the company asking for guidance, that was a month ago - still no response. This product was money down the drain.

by fromStill some design defects to work out I've owned a cheaper filtration bottle for several years, and really liked it. I decided to upgrade to a Katadyne, but was disappointed. I like the modular design, and the fact that it can be used with or without the filter. But I tried using it without the filter, and the output was barely more than a trickle. I didn't even try it with the filter in place, but I imagine it's much worse. Maybe I just had a defective bottle.

by fromconvenient but too small I used this on a 4 day backpacking trip in the Sierras, as a quick means to filter water rather than use tablets or my uv gadget. It is easy to use (fill it up, close lid, suck up the water) - the drawbacks for me were that the bottle only holds a small amount of water - I could drink it almost in one gulp! and it can take quite a bit of sucking power to get the water from bottle to mouth. As a result, I didn't drink as much as I should, on a hike. Worked tho.

by fromPure water is good water I used this device in Voyaguers National Park in May, so the water from the lake was quite cold and crisp to begin with. It did leave a funny taste in my mouth, Im not sure if that will subside with more use. I couldnt imagine myself drinking warm dirty water through this.

by fromGood to bring along if you're worried I used this bottle for about a week in Patagonia (Argentina side) last December. I didn't have any problems with priming (and I'm a 110# weakling) or bad taste. A low flow rate is to be expected -- you're pushing water thru a filter! When the bottle is full, it's a bit heavy, but not unbearably so. I didn't get sick, so the bottle did its job.

by fromTry the Exstream XR This produces as advertised. One needs to follow the priming instructions to make it work well, but it isn't difficult and your drinking water supply is then secure. I've used this from the Louisiana bayous to the Alaskan outback and have not been displeased.

by fromGood experience with this I used this on a recent 24 mile overnight hike in Myakka River State Park in Florida. I read the directions for once so I knew what to expect. I found the priming process to be straightforward, and the flow rate, although not stunning, is adequate. I used it to fill my large Platypus reservoir in about 15-20 minutes (just a camp chore). Considering how bad the water looked and smelled pre-filtering, I had no complaints with the post-filtered taste. And I didn't die, so it must work!
