Comments about Keen Newport H2 Sandals - Men's:
My go-to footwear for nonwinter months. The Good- Comfort: Tremendous fit and comfort; great arch support.- Utility: I use mine for knocking about town, serious hiking, wading and swimming.- Traction and Support: I took my Keens and hiking boots with me during a 10-day trip to Acadia and ended up not wearing the boots a single time. I used my Keens to climb the 5 highest peaks, many of which required significant scrambling on rocks. Traction, support and comfort were great. The Not-So-Good- Smell: These suckers can get more a little ripe, i.e., they start to reek. Not that big an issue: when needed, per Keen's instructions, tossing 'em in the washer (cold water) does an acceptable job of ridding them of the, um, aroma.- Durability: The stitching beneath the ankles on both sides of each sandal has failed on all 3 pairs of Keens that I've owned (see below pics of the failed seams on my right sandal). The first time this happened, I had them restitched ([$] at a shoe repair shop. Now, however, I just take them back to REI for a trade. Since the same failure has occurred with 3 different pairs, think it's safe to say this is a design or production deficiency. BUT I haven't found a competing product that offers comparable fit, comfort and utility. So, I will keep using them (and returning to REI when they fail).

I love KEEN shoes and have 4 pairs because of comfort. However, I’m starting to have some reservations on their quality control. The last three pairs I’ve purchased have had quality issues [...]. One KEEN Arroyo Sandals had the side sole come unglued after six months of use and I was given free tube of Shoe Goo. The other 2 KEEN Newport H2’s, 2006 and 2007 editions had stitching unravel on the right shoe, left-rear quarter where the webbing meets the sole. Both were replaced, however the replacement is starting to show signs of unravel. This appears to be a person at the factory who is not doing the job correctly. There is no tracking, SKEW or quality control number so it can’t be traced back to any one person, station or factory. The KEEN website is not equipped to get this type of feedback. Two suggestions;1. Check the stitching carefully on the Newport H2’s2. KEEN Newport H2 seems to be ½ size smaller than the other KEEN shoes. Order ½ size larger than your other KEENS or better go [...] try them on.

I have five pairs. 'Nuf sed? I will say this: My leather pair - which I've had for six years now - are stinking awful, and I don't have a smelly-feet problem in any other shoes. Know what though? That's shoes. You can wear these most days in the temperate zone; on few will you so much as need socks (which work great with them). They are good for everything. Haven't tried backpacking in them, but I think I could; and they go to every trailhead with me, even in dead of winter. (Why waste time on another pair of socks and laces at the switchover?) Someone else said it here: Best knocking-around shoes I ever owned. I have them in both 11 and 10.5 sizes (wear 10.5 in other shoes); can't even remember which are which, they all fit so well. I will echo two other things I've heard here: they are not as cool as one would expect from a sandal, nor do they shed small stones as well. Quibbles. Nothing is perfect. But these are as close as shoes can come.

Comments about Keen Newport H2 Sandals - Men's:
I have owned these shoes for well over two years. They have been all across Europe, spending considerable time in both salt and fresh water. I've worn them in the desert, in the mountains, and around town. I wouldn't recommend wearing any type of heavy pack with them as they provide scant ankle support, but they are comfortable for an entire day of hiking and then some. They have also held up quite well, only now am I beginning to see issues where the upper connects to the sole. They do have a tendency to emit odors after constant wear especially when put away wet. To rectify simply wash them with a mild detergent and air dry. I'm confident my pair would have lasted well into a third or even fourth year if I hadn't lost one on the continental divide. Oh well, at least I get some new Keens...

I have had a pair for 2 years. After a year I conviced my wife to get a pair. Both of us are hard to fit. She has flat feet. I have a high arch. They work for both of us, but I'm more comfortable with a "Good Feet" arch support. We have worn them for moderate hiking, travel across the US, incluing Hawaii's beaches and cities, and the Diamond Head trail, as well as in Alaska's woods (Wrangell-St. Elias NP in late Spring). The soles and straps are as good as new, but I caught hell from a fastideous boater when the soles scuffed the white deck. On mine the tensioning elastic is wearing smoothe and doesn't hold the setting for more than half an hour. This [$]. piece of material (apparently non replaceable) is quickly rendering a[$]. shoe useless. We always wear them to get through airport security as they are easy off and easy on. They are also great for long flights when feet tend to swell. No problem with smell, perhaps because we occasionally soak them in a baking soda solution. Keen, like most companies, probably uses its customers as testers (everything is Beta). So, maybe the next generation will correct the few deficiencies that we experience. I didn't check "stylish," but my wife wears hers for social occasions, including eating at one of Cincinnati's posh restaurants. Maitre d's tend not to look at feet.

Comments about Keen Newport H2 Sandals - Men's:
It takes both hands and 20 seconds to put one socked foot into these sandals because the opening for my average foot is too narrow. My 5-year old H20s do not have this problem. This appears to be a model design change, and for the worse. Removing a pebble would be a hassle. The several other Keen sandals I have do not have this problem and are marvelous.[...]A sandal can be marvelous, but if if it is work to get it on or off... Barefoot is easier once you work for technique. Perhaps product designers cannot stop fiddling with perfection.

I love these sandals! Super comfortable, versatile footwear.Use: I wear these for casual daily wear as well as for some fairly rigorous hiking, e.g.: 10- to 12- mile day hikes w/light pack (climbed five highest peaks in Acadia National Park, regularly do the Billy Goat Trail in Great Falls, MD, etc.). I also swim in them: they stay on just fine in the water and it is no problem to continue hiking in them when they are wet.Two Problems/Issues: i) Stitching. The stitching on the ankle gussets fails, i.e., it unravels. I've experienced this same problem with all three pairs I've purchased over the past four year, so I would argue that this is a design deficiency rather than a defect. It cost me[$]to have a cobbler re-stitch them, however, at this price point (±$100), the stitching should not fail.ii) Odor. They can develop a ripe odor. The solution is to toss them in the washer (cold water) or give them a good rinse. Not really that big a deal.

Color in the picture is way off. The shoe color is a bright green. But this is my forth pair of Newports (3 of them are H2s) and I swear by them. If they look dingy, throw them in the washer and they look like new.

Comments about Keen Newport H2 Sandals - Men's:
I absolutely love these sandals. I bought them for a vacation where I was in the water, hiking, and climbing. They performed well in all aspects. The width of the sandal and the low profile helped me to feel stable while on slippery granite. The rubber toe was great for wading in the water to protect my toes and they worked well for scrambling over boulders. The nylon and neoprene took about 24 hours to dry, but they were quite comfortable even when wet. I loved them so much that my wife went to REI when we returned from our vacation to buy a pair of her own. If there was anything negative to say it was that little pebbles would, on occasion, slip into the sandals, but they were fairly easy to remove.

Comments about Keen Newport H2 Sandals - Men's:
I have worn these sandles almost daily in North Florida since last April. They are the only pair that have ever felt both secure and comfortable on my feet. Despite this daily wear and contrary to other reviewers, they do not smell at all.
