Comments about Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:

So far these boots have been the best I've ever owned. Absolutely no break-in period. They were comfortable from the very beginning. Bought the same size as I do when I purchase running shoes (a size bigger than sandals/heels).

Took them on a very wet Labor Day backpacking trip. They stayed completely dry through numerous stream crossings and pouring rain. Definitely made my boyfriend really jealous, which is a plus. :)

Haven't gotten to do any cold-weather hiking yet, but I should be able to do that soon. If they perform as well as they do in the water, then I have no doubt they will keep my toes nice and cozy.

Comments about Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:

My husband and I bought these Asolo boots Nov 2010 and both worked a bit on weekends to break them in before our longer summer hikes. He had trouble with the tongue initially and mine were just tight on one foot. But after 3-4 months of weekly 1-3 mile hikes they became very comfortable.

Last winter, to our dismay, both Of us noticed cracking of the rubber toe, but they were still quite waterproof, so we didn't take them back. This summer, my toe started peeling off and a friend reminded us that REI has a very generous guarantee policy. So we gathered our boots and took them back, exchanging them for another type of boot. We highly suggest Asolo investigate their rubber as we have many other boots with rubber that don't crack and peel. Thanks REI and we will to buy our boots with you!

Comments about Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:

As a forest service volunteer, I need dependable boots on the trail. After trying many different brands, the Asolo Stynger GTX hiking boots are by far my favorite and I've been using them for years. I wear a size 7-1/2 in dress shoes, but bought a size 9 in the Asolo's to accomodate for thicker hiking socks. My ankles are held snug while my toes have plenty of room to spread out during a long day of hiking. The Asolo's tend to have a narrower toe than other brands, so I opted to get a 1-1/2 size larger than my foot size to prevent my little toe from feeling cramped and it worked out perfectly. I can't comment on the original footbed, because I always upgrade the the insoles as soon as I buy boots (which also corrects any heel slippage). Very little break-in time is needed. The color of the Asolo's are well suited with my uniform. They are comfortable enough to wear all day long.

If I were to complain about anything, it would be that the Styngers are not completely waterproof. I've stepped in quite a few creeks in the backcountry and as long as you don't completely submerge your foot up to your ankle you are fine. They have worked very well in the rain.

When these Asolo Styngers wear out, I'm definately buying the exact same pair of Asolo's as a replacement.

Comments about Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:

I always have trouble with width. Buying a wide is too wide buying regular width is too tight. These were just right for those who are in between. My husband also bought Asolo's the same day. The next two days we hiked a total of 20 miles with no problems, very comfortable, no problems crossing water as well. If you plan on doing long hikes with a heavy pack, with no break in time...these are for you. You will not be dissappointed. You get what you pay for with these.

Comments about Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:

I chose to purchase these boots because of how good they felt on my feet right out of the box. My boyfriend also hikes in Asolos, and he's on his third or fourth season in his pair. He had a hard time breaking his in, but now he loves them.

Mine felt great on their first hike, for the most part. We were covering a variety of terrain, including sand, rock, and dirt trails. I got one hot spot on my heel, but with the exception of that, they felt like they were made for my narrow, low-volume foot. I wore a pair of medium-weight Smartwool hiking socks with silk liners and had plenty of space with no toe-bang.

I wear an 8.5 in street shoes, 9 in running shoes, and went with a 9 in these, which was perfect. I even have room for an insole if I needed one, but they're so supportive on their own I might not bother. I have a low arch.

I did a little bit of standing in a stream to test the Goretex, and not a drop got inside. They are a bit heavy, but before this I used to backpack in Salomon trail runners, so any boot is going to feel heavier than that. I love how secure my footing feels in them, especially walking downhill.

So far (though I haven't owned them very long or taken them very far), I am quite happy with this purchase. These feel like solid boots that will last.

I adore these boots! I've had mine for about three years and wear them somwhat regularly. The first time I wore them was for a 16 mile hike at Picture Rock (Upper Pennisula of Michigan) lots of elevation changes, etc. I expected blisters and pain, having not broken them in. Nope! I was fine! I think I could wak forever in these boots. Also, I wear them in the winter. The thick sole helps keep the cold out. They are as warm as they are breathable in the summer. How do they do this? I only wish Asolo made every type of shoe!

Comments about Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:

I had my first pair for 3 years, including three seasons in the field as a geologist. I had to replace them because the foot bed (underneath the insert) was becoming uneven, mysteriously. But I had liked the boots so much I ordered another pair.

The biggest thing in their favor is that they're extremely comfortable. There's no padding but the shape is just right so that I can stand or walk for 12 hours with no pain. I didn't have to break in the first pair. This second pair seems to be a bit stiffer and I have had a few blisters as I break them in.

The outsides of the boots have been extremely durable. I've never experienced any scratches, tears, or rubber pulling away, even with spending all summer crawling around volcanic rocks. They do lose their waterproofing after a while but remain relatively water-resistant.

They weigh a lot for footwear, but not a lot for a boot this size. Neither the coolest nor the warmest boot out there. I have found the soles to be slippery when wet. It's not a flawless product but the comfort and durability are so good I can't help but love them.
