Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
WHILE IT SAYS FOR TWO AND YOU CAN SLEEP TWO ITS REALLY GREAT FOR ONE. HAS EXCELLENT AIR FLOW TOO MUCH ON COLDER NIGHTS. WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THIS TENT IN A WINTER VERSION WITH LESS MESH AND A LONGER FLY.PERFORMED EXCELLENT IN 3 DAYS OF RAIN ON A T ONE DAY OF SNOW. NOTHING GOT WET INSIDE.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
We used this tent for 4 short training trips (8 nights total) and it seemed okay, so then we took it on the John Muir Trail for 5 weeks. About 5 days into the trip, one tent zipper failed. A few days later, the other one failed. The slider would move (jerkily), but not keep the material together, so big gaps opened up behind the slider. The other problem we had is the tent took great strength to setup (to get the poles into the grommets). When the tent was damp it was easier, but as soon as it dried we were back to the old struggle. My partner couldn't do it. My last complaint about the tent is that the colors of the tent body are too garish (black & white & orange). In the wilderness we want to blend in, not jump out at everyone. It's part of "leave no trace." The fly is sufficiently subdued, but during good weather we didn't necessarily want to put the fly on every night. This tent does have many good features. It's sturdy and it never leaked in 8 days of rain, even the time we pitched it in a low spot by mistake and ended up in a puddle. But why have a tent body if the doors don't zip closed? If they can fix the problem with the zippers, it'll be a good tent. It seemed the tent body was too taut - it put too much tension on the zippers. I tried to stake it looser, but the tension was coming from the poles. Maybe our tent was defective (built too small somehow?) since we always had so much trouble getting the poles in. Anyhow, I would never trust this tent again. As soon as we got home, I returned it to REI.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
Great Tent. I used it for Boy Scout camp and will continue to use it every time after that. The only bad thing is that it needs two more stakes to stake down the fly. Otherwise everything is good about it.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
While traveling from our coastal home to the Smokey Mountains for an April wild flower viewing trip my wife and I stopped [...]to pick up a few things and left with a new REI Quarter Dome UL two person tent. The ancient dome tent we had with us had served us well over many years, however, it had been resealed on too many occasions and most of the seam tape was missing from the floor. For these reasons we were skeptical that it would not be up to the notoriously wet and possibly even icy Smokeys this early in the season. On this spring trip the Smokeys lived up to their reputation for damp, or shall I say, monsoon weather; off but mostly on for four solid days. The nights were especially stormy with not only steady sheets of rain but high winds from unseasonable thunderstorms; who would have thought? The Quarter Dome kept us and our belongings bone dry, not the first drop of water or condensation could be found any where inside the tent, not even under the sleeping pads. Other campers in the front country camp ground where we were staying were constantly trying to dry out sleeping bags and children while we hardly noticed the weather. Without a doubt this tent saved our much anticipated trip and preserved my ability to convince my wife that camping really is fun, even in the rain. Setting up the tent is as easy as the proverbial grade school one- two-three, especially if you rig the fly to the tent in advance. The whole process takes mere minutes. This valued priced tent is a great tent for two in any season but proves especially comfortable when the temperature drops and the weather turns nasty.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
I use it as a 3 seasonone man plus backpacking and photography gear shelter. Sets up tight and I have withstood some nasty wind and rain storms and performs excellent. I think of it as a big solo tent not a tight 2 man, although if you are going ultralight 2 person it does the trick.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
This is a good tent for the hiker that is looking for something quick to put up and doesn't plan to spend much time in the tent. I got this tent for my son and I to use on group campouts. I have an active child, and this is too small a tent for our needs. If you are shopping for a tent that you will use with your kids, I'd recommend one that they can stand up in as they will be changing clothes and getting up in the middle of the evening to use the "woods".

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
Nice design and luxury-sized for one. Too small for two adults with comfort. Tent not tight across ends, lack of horizontal tension there creates some annoying sloppiness. Pole sleeves 1 inch too short. Conversely, poles 1 inch too long which creates difficulty seating pole ends unless assisted by Sasquatch. Fly adequate in rain. Vents well. Two doors big plus. Overall smart and good value.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
Bought about 2 years ago, and at the time, it was the perfect balance between weight and convenience. For a tent that comes in under 4 lbs, it is freestanding, has 2 doors, 2 vestibules, and a double wall. Other ultralight 2-person tents tend to give up one of the above. Having 2 doors is a key feature for me since I hate having to repeatedly crawl over someone or have them crawl over me (kind of like in an airplane). Other things I like: (1) Easy set-up--since the poles go into dead-end sleeves, there's no need to walk to the other side of the tent to complete set up. (2) Bent poles in the head region allow me to sit up straight. (3) The large vestibules allow me to leave my boots (and pack) outside. (4) The doors are flushed to one end, so I can use the outer wall of the tent to lean my pack without obstructing the door. (5) The D-style door opens to the side, so I don't get dirt all over the door (which can end up getting into the tent). That being said, at 28 square feet, it's on the smaller end of ultralights (so, it does give up something to weigh in under 4 lbs). I can see how taller or bigger folks would feel cramped. I'm 5'7" and my wife is 5'2", so we can fit comfortably and still have room above our heads to put our fanny or daypacks. If we're a bit more organized, we can even stand both our packs above our heads. I think it's too heavy for a 1-person tent (I would forego the extra door and vestibule to go for a lighter alternative). Minor gripe: Wish it came with an attic (rather than having to buy it separately) and more internal mesh pockets for loose stuff.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
In the last 6 months I have backpacked with this tent 8 nights, lived out of it for 15 nights in fire camp, and spent another 6 nights on overnight trips and it has served as a solid home in every situation. Weathered rain, humid heat, and subfreezing nights and was dry with adequate ventilation. Weight is good and space (for one) very adequate (I am 5'8") even when used as a base for two weeks fire duty with all my gear. Set up is a breeze with the deadend pole sleeves. My favorite tent past or present. Would be nice to have a gear loft included or available to compliment the corner pockets but this ommission not enough to keep me from rating this tent 5 stars or buying another should I wear this one out.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome UL Tent:
I have used this tent casually but plan to take it on many hikes. I found just what I was looking for in weight, price, features, and quality in this tent. With one person there is plenty of space for you and all of your gear. With two people things get a little tight but tollerable. I fit myself (190lbs) and two 80 pound dogs in this tent and slept just fine. Fortunately there are two doors and double vestibules which makes this scenario easier to deal with. This tent is easy to set up and has great ventilation. So far I have been very pleased with the attention to detail and quality that REI has put into this product.
