The pucker shirt is styish without being showy and it is very comfortable on hot and humid days. Although the material is synthetic, the weave is such that it breathes. The shirt seems lasts for only one summer season, but I like it enough that I have bought one each summer for a number of years.

This is an otherwise perfect shirt. Fit, feel, durability, etc. I'm on my second and am about to go buy a third (not a replacement, I just want more colors.)
But: if you tumble-dry it, the threads along the rim of the cuff will eventually break, and the cuff will fray, in a way that's not easily repaired. The first one I bought suffered this fate before I realized what was going on.
The thing is, this shirt dries like lightning. Hang it on a hanger straight out of the wash, and put everything else in the dryer, and the shirt will be dry first.
Under all other circumstances so far the shirt is as durable as any. It feels great to the touch, which is most important to me, almost like lightweight suede. It sheds stains and smells, dries quickly, and packs small. I haven't noticed any undue fading or color shifts beyond what I'd expect from normal use. So just don't put it in the dryer and all is well.
To RR: Put some reinforcement on the cuff - That's the only spot I've noticed the fraying problem - and change the care tag to specify hang-dry only. Problem doubly solved.

Comfortable, understated and stylish. Yes, they fray, and fray, and fray. I bought these several times over (would I ever learn?) and none lasted more than 2 seasons. I still look at these everytime I visited the REI website but will buy no more. What is going on, Royal Robbins?

I only bought the shirt in May. I wonder if owners have been over doing it with the conditioner. The fabric is already very soft. Just a thought.

Got the first shirt in Sept 2011.
After about 9 months, the fabric at the edges of the sleeves and bottom edges frayed severly and threads were coming loose. REI gladly accepted the return (albeit for less than I paid originally) and I decided that I liked the style/weight enough to buy 2 of them. I wore the original about 25-30 times before returning it. Probably best to wash gentle cycle and hang up to dry.
