Comments about Big Agnes Air Core Pad - Regular:
Well there really is no problem inflating this, I did it at 10PM in 20 degrees and a 25 mph wind. The real problem came when I tried to sleep on it, I kept slipping off. I pitched on a slight incline (and I mean slight) and after 45 min of fighting to stay on this, I just deflated it and slept on the ground. This would be good for maybe a weekend warrior, but for a thru-hike I don't see this as part of my gear.

Comments about Big Agnes Air Core Pad - Regular:
i have taken this pad out on several one-night excursions, and i slept under the stars for the most part. that means that i just plopped my pad down right on whatever the ground happened to be like. The first night, i set my pad down when it was dark, and in the morning found out that i had slept on top of a wood saw all night. another night, i set my pad down on some rocky ground with 4 other people. i was awoken by the sound of yelling; we had all been sleeping on a huge ant pile and they were covered in ants. I was fine! i have noticed that if the night gets chilly, some deflating will occur, but not very much (as long as it doesn't get too cold). it is extremely compact compared to thermarests and other self inflatables. and the price is just right. did i mention that is it extremely comfortable?

I am getting a little older and found this to be the best option for backpacking for me. Very lightweight since it is inflatable and yet when inflated the 2"+ of thickness was very comfy. I highly recommend it.

I've had mine for over three years and it has held up, usually a problem with air mattresses. I like being comfortable, and I've used it in the winter at -20. I put my short thermorest on top and wrapped it in a wool blanket. (obviously not backpacking) It insulated, was comfortable and didn't slip. In the summer, alone it's a great backpacking pad.

This pad really doesn't take too much to inflate. It is comfortable and very light weight for packing. I use it for backpacking because of the weight and the comfort. Do not use this pad in cold weather without an insulator between it and ground. Otherwise you will get cold at night.

Comments about Big Agnes Air Core Pad - Regular:
Great addition for extra comfort on the trail. The extra inch of thickness compared to most self-inflating foam pads makes a world of difference. I tried a conventional 1.5 inch thick self inflating pad for two weekend hikes this spring on the Appalachian Trail and had difficulty sleeping. Switching to the Big Agnes REM Air Core pad made a huge difference and I slept great this summer for a week on the AT. Super small, lightweight, easy to inflate...it's hard to beat. Great for summer hiking; I think it would also work well in colder weather with a thin foam pad between the Big Agnes and the ground.

Comments about Big Agnes Air Core Pad - Regular:
The REM pad works well, provided it doesn't get cold outside. Its not so much that the pad doesn't provide the necessary warmth, which I was worried about when I saw how much air was in it. But rather when I used it in Colorado this march, I found myself having to re-inflate it during the night because my hot breath (which this pad takes quite a lot of) was condensing down as it cooled, deflating the pad. Other than that annoyance, the pad is great, it packs down to a ridiculously small size compared to normal pads. Its very light weight as well.

Easy to get packed up, So much space is saved, I put it on the outside of my pack and it hasn't failed me yet. It deflates fairly quick and saves alot more space than a thermarest.

Comments about Big Agnes Air Core Pad - Regular:
This is not a pad for cooler weather. This pad does not insulate very well. I tend to wake up with a cold back on backpacking trips with this pad. I would recommend going with the insulated version or going with a thermarest, you'll sleep better. There is also almost too much padding with how thick the pad is. I have also had problems with the pad leaking air from the valve and periodically needing to refill the pad. This could also partly be due to thermal fluctuations as there is a lot of air in these pads.
