Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

I am a huge fan of Mountain hardwear products. I currently own The Synchro Jacket, Synchro pants. Several shirts, hats, sleeping bag an Mountaineering tent as well. I just purchased this Exposure II parka last week on clearence for about [$] less than retail. I am 6 foot 2 inches and weigh 242 pounds. I love the feel of this jacket. I have about 15 jackets all of which are for wet or extreme weather. I feel that this is the most verstile of all. I think being more of an avid owner in the outdoor clothing field and testing so many different jackets living in the Rocky mountains and doing extreme winter and summer sports this jacket will hold tru to the Mountain Hardwear name. I am not sure why other readers feel this jacket is too bulky? I think it needs to be to be so durable in cold or wintery mountian conditions. As a matter of fact I feel it is less bulky for extreme conditions than most other jackets this durable. I got this jacket in all black and would even wear it out on the town during cold wet weather. The only thing I can't figure out is why they did not use waterproof zippers for the outside pockets as they do on the Synchro. This makes it much easier to access the outside pockets. Otherwise I abuse my jackets to their fullest potential and feel this Exposure jacket can take it.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

Last year I wore this jacket for twenty days on a trip to the top of Aconcagua (22,841ft) through snow, rain, wind, with plenty of abrasion from rocks, and ice - it treated me really well. It's very comfortable and layerable, and fairly warm, the high collar is particularly nice when zipped up for keeping your neck and face protected- zippers are easy to operate, even with mitts, easy to dump heat when climbing, easy to bundle up when stopped. Good pockets - the higher pockets on the chest are accessible when wearing a waste belt. Love the interior bottle pocket and the glove keeper rings. At 5'9" 160lb I usually wear a medium or large, but after trying on several I decided on the SMALL which fits great - still room for a couple of fleece layers underneath. This jacket is a little bit heavy, but you appreciate it when its ten below, the wind is howling and the snow is blowing sideways!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

I spend the winter months in west central Oregon where cold rain is a near-daily occurrence. This jacket performs great in that weather. But it doesn't just feel big and long, it is big and long. It's not big and long by accident. If you want a snugger, trimmer fit, I'd suggest you go a full size under what you normally wear. The jacket is designed so you can stack layer after layer under it for warmth and then cinch it up tight against the elements. It's also heavy. It's a heavy, big, long, waterproof, windproof, tough piece of excellent foul weather gear at the right price, is what it is.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

This would be a great jacket if you ONLY use it for your extreme adventures. For me, it lost waterproofness within 3 months (completely soaks up water). After tech washing, wash-in nikwax waterproofer, and following up with spray nikwax... got another 3 months out of it. Velcro on front flap rips up the front material. It is a good size for someone tall like me with long arms, and the vents and pockets work well.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

I purchase this jacket to start dabbling in mountaineering and wanting a good waterproof shell; I hope to test the jacket on the summit of Rainer soon. Living in MN I have used this jacket during heavy rain, sleet, and light snow with no worries. I definitely agree with other reviews around sizing; I am 6” and weight around 160 lbs and usually purchase L to get the proper sleeve length. With this jacket I was comfortably able to but a med get great sleeve and torso coverage along with adequate room for 2-3 layers. The jacket is definitely different from other “mountaineering shells” I have looked at. The fabric is noticeably heavier/tougher and appears to be much more durable than other shells costing much more. So when comparing it to other shells costing [$]this was the best value.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

A nice-looking, rugged, excellent fitting, fairly warm (at least for a shell jacket) shell jacket with lots of features for the price. Lots of room for additional layers also.

My only complaint is the scarcity of outside pockets. There are only two hand pockets plus a "Napoleon pocket" along the main zipper. (There are several more inside pockets, but you have to open the jacket to access these). The specs describe the hand pockets as "chest high" as if this is an advantage, but they seemed a little awkward. But the main problem is that if you stuff gloves or a hat or other stuff in the hand pockets, you then have no place to warm your hands. It would be better if they had hand slots underneath the outside pockets as my previous 60/40 parka did. But I guess you cannot expect everything at this price.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

This is an excellent jacket. I finally retired my TNF Mountain Guide Light jacket after numerous years of use and purchased the Mountain Hardware Exposure II jacket. It's a bit heavier than my NF but I feel it is better made. The seams are reinforced and the fabric is beefier. This makes for a slightly heavier jacket but I'm not at all weight conscience. Overall, I think this is a much better jacket for the price conscience consumer. More bang for the buck. My only gripe regarding the jacket is that the velcro on the pockets gets caught on the velcro on the cuffs when I reach in to retrieve something.

First use was a ski trip to upstate NY. Weather has been a bit weird with snow on day 1, sleat on day 2, and rain on day 3. The jacket kept me warm and dry in all conditions.

This is a quality jacket that will keep you dry and protected during the cold season. You will need to wear a under layer fleece to keep you warm in the snow. The conduit shell does a good job of keeping water out. The jacket has a slightly larger cut to easily accommodate for this.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Exposure II Parka - Men's:

Great jacket overall, but order a size down if you're not planning on going some where extremely cold where you have to wear 5 layers. I'm 6'2" and a lean 190 pounds but a Large was just too long and bulky. Even a Medium sized jacket is kind of a stretch because the most I'll wear underneath it is a long sleeve shirt with a sweater on top. The Conduit material doesn't shed water like the Gore-Tex material and actually seems to get wet. But it has kept me dry on the inside on rainy days, which is what really matters. For the price, it's a great winter jacket.
