Comments about Slime 700c Tire Liners - Twin Pack:

          These cause flats.

I bought these for my wife because she was getting flats about once a month on her 30-mile/week commute. Three months after installing these she got another flat and when I took out the tube there was a big slice in it matching the end of the liner. I put it back, but duct taped the end of the liner and put a patch on a brand new tube to protect it from the end of the liner and reinstalled it.

A couple months later she got another flat. This time there was a huge slice down the tread area of the tube where the liner had apparently been installed somewhat off-center.

I have now switched to a more pliable tire liner.

Comments about Slime 700c Tire Liners - Twin Pack:

I'm a heavy rider who was experiencing frequent flats commuting 100-150 miles per week on my dedicated commuter bike with Conti Gatorskins until I used this liner in my rear tire. I am very satisfied with it and haven't had any flats for a good 1,000 miles. I've used a similar product in the past and it did cut into the tube and cause a flat that way, but this product hasn't. I also don't use ultralight tubes, but use Specialized standard tubes, but haven't had a flat since installing. I'll probably pull the tire and look to see how much abrasion is on the tube and may be rotate the strip after reading others' experiences.

Comments about Slime 700c Tire Liners - Twin Pack:

These liners actually sliced into the tire tube. First time this happened, the liner developed a longitudinal crack, a sharp edge then slicing the tube. Thinking this was a one time event, I replaced with another liner. On the very next ride, the liner sliced another tube with its hard edge. I have since thrown these stiff plastic based liners away and returned to the other brand REI carries that is more pliable.

They do protect against flats from road junk, but for me they *cause* flats in two ways: either the side edge or the cut end of the liner itself will rub a holes into the tube. The side edge rubbing may be exacerbated by lower tire pressure.

I had similar problems with the Mr. Tuffy brand liners, and successfully protected against the cut-end type flats they would produce with an extra piece of old tube layered in, but the side edge of the Slime brand is less pliable and perhaps not as tapered.

Either way, too much hassle for me. Another commuter recommended the super-thick-treaded Panaracer tires as great flat protection. Definitely more expensive, but being late for work due to flats costs $$ too.

Good puncture resistence but at a price?

I commuted 3-4 days a week for 5 weeks with only 2 flats. AND THEN I added the slime tire liners and I've experiences 1-2 flats a day. They seem puncture resistant enough. But for whatever reason, I'm constantly getting pinch flats now. Maybe the extra space they use is forcing the tube against the rim. Either way, I'm ditching them for now.
