These bite valves work fine; however they are of poor quality and fail after only a short period of time! For what you get they are way over-priced!

I ordered this valve because I can never get enough water down the gullet during hill climbs on my mountain bike. Heavy breathing and drinking are hard to do at the same time. The product description [...] said this piece was supposed to have twice the flow as the original mouthpiece that came with my Platypus....It does NOT!!! In fact, it's the exact same mouth piece that came on the original. The holes on both ends of the pieces are exactly the same size (I measured) and the suction on my old one is actually better cuz it's broken in. Granted...there is a possibility that I was given the wrong mouthpiece, although it came in the correct packaging, the mouthpiece is not yellow as in the picture. It's the same blue as the original. [...] I'm not happy with the part.

I like this mouthpiece much better than the camelback brand. To me, the flow rate is comparable, but the thing I really like is the lip that goes around the edge so that it is easier to hold in your mouth with your teeth in between drinking. That is really nice if you are hiking up a mountain or something steep and need to huff and puff a little, but want to drink too. The other stuff seems comparable. But that feature won me over. Also, it comes apart for thorough cleaning.

Comments about Platypus Hyper-Flow Bite Valve:

I have one of these valves that came with a Platypus hydration system that I bought two years ago. I haven't used it heavily, but it works great. Water flow is more than adequate for the occasional sip while hiking the Wasatch Mountains. It won't let you gulp like a wide-mouth bottle would, but it's great as part of an on-the-go hydration system.
