Comments about Leather Ice Axe Head Guard:
Whoever made this thing obviously never bothered to try it out before bringing it to market.
As all the other reviewers said, the tip of the pick protrudes through the end of the cover. Unfortunately, I was stuck with this thing for a 2 week trip and had to make do, so I stuffed some TP in the end to keep my pick from poking out.
Also, the back end kept falling off of my adze (I was using a BD Raven Pro). No matter how much I tightened up the buckle, it kept slipping off.
This item is worse than useless. You could do a better job with duct tape, toilet paper and 5 minutes of your time.

Comments about Leather Ice Axe Head Guard:
A sharpened ice pick tip is like a knife. A guard should cover that tip to reduce the chance of injury or impalement. This cover has an opening at the pick end, and so the pick tip protrudes. It would have been simple for the manufacturer to add a few extra stitches to close the tip, but they did not. I bought another brand and will return this defective design.

Comments about Leather Ice Axe Head Guard:
I agree with the other reviewers, it is a poor design. It keeps falling off and when I tried to make more holes to make is stay put the axe pick exits through the protector. Go for the Black Diamond Axe protector, it is worth the extra buck!

Comments about Leather Ice Axe Head Guard:
Just don't buy this product. It would be cheaper to find a better one than to get your parka fixed.

Comments about Leather Ice Axe Head Guard:
As the other reviewer said -- the tip of the axe, the sharpest part of it! is sticking out, defeating the whole purpose of the guard.
Look elsewhere.

Comments about Leather Ice Axe Head Guard:
I bought a REI ice axe and also purchased the ice axe guard. Like the others mention in the reviews, it allows the tip to be exposed just a little bit, but I have found that adding a little duct tape at the end to cover the hole solves the problem. My axe has been carried around a bunch with no problems what so ever. The cover was cheap, durable, and lightweight. I would recommend it if you don't mind wasting 10 cents in duct tape.
