Comments about Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses:
For the price I paid, these were not bad....initially, but I found that after a week's use with fairly careful attention to storage and cleaning, the outer blue mirrored coating on the lenses scratched easily and even wore off in larger patches (3mm diameters). The price, as I said is appealing, but I'd suggest your money is better spent on the Julbo Micropore Glaciers.

Comments about Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses:
I've been wearing Julbo Sherpas for close to 20 years now and they're the best pair of all-around sunglasses I've ever found. I didn't rate them 5 stars due to the design change several years ago for the earpieces. The new design is far less resilient than the old design, but Julbo has sent me new earpiece covers and side shields for free on more than one occasion.
I wear these glasses for every outdor activity in which I participate, from cycling to swimming. They have been in the ocean several times (even once with the side shields still attached) and never had a problem. I love the wrap-around ear piece and that, along with the side shields, are why these are my exclusive sunglasses.
While I do agree that the outside surface fairly easily gets very light scratches, I've never had the mirroring wear off (even after 11 years with one pair) and the scratches to do not interfere at all with vision. I can't even tell the scratches are there. Also, for the price, they simply can't be beat. As I said, I purchase these glasses exclusively and I don't see myself ever switching unless someone introduces a very similar style with polarization for a reasonable price.
I highly recommend these for anyone who wants/needs a pair of sunglasses which will stay on during any activity, or for just about any other reason. :)

Comments about Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses:
Where have the REI Glacier Glasses Gone? I started wearing REI Glacier Glasses, more comfortable than Bole or the others, about 30 years ago and have worn them exclusively as my day to day glasses since then.
I still have two pairs, worn, breaking, and glued or melted back together again and again until I needed a pair that was new - these Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses are a close second, and even filter 1% more light than the more expensive Micropore version by Julbo, but they aren't the old REI Glacier Glasses that set the standard for about the same price as these.
I bought a pair and I'm very pleased with them except for the durability - they scratch easily.
But they fit real nice and provide a comfortable alternative to the famous REI Glacier Glasses that no one at the store in Orange County or Manhattan Beach seem to know anything about - newbies!
Anyway, these are the glasses I'm segueing into now, but instead of each pair lasting 15 years I'll have to settle for a slightly less durable pair that already has scratches on the lense.
I'm not exactly happy, but they maintain the style and comfort that the old REI Glacier Glasses afforded me.
I would recommend these to friends, shooters, and anyone who likes a rather extreme filtering of light in bright places like Super Sunny Southern California.

Comments about Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses:
I bought a pair of Julbo Micropore Glacier Glasses a few years ago, but recently gouged one of the lenses so I thought I'd give these lower-cost glasses by the same manufacturer a try. Unfortunately, the ear pieces are only rubber, with no metal core with which to adjust them, so the weight of the glasses cause them to slowly slip forward on the nose with no way of stopping it. Considering the point of these glasses is to reduce as much as possible the light coming in from the top and sides, the fact that the ear pieces can't be adjusted for a tighter fit means these glasses that slip down are essentially useless in cutting glare.

Comments about Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses:
These Julbo glasses offer great eye protection for high altitude and snow under bright conditions. The low light transmission will keep you from squinting in the brightest conditions and protects you completely from UV. When properly seated, they let in very little light around the edges of the frame, as any quality glacier glasses should. The problem I encountered was that the stems were too long with no way to shorten them. Unlike other Julbo glasses, the stems are not bendable on this model and this resulting in them constantly falling forward on my face, leaving a large gap on top.
If they fit, I'd recommend them for the price, but the stems are very long and you should definitely try them on before buying. Try the other Julbo offerings with bendable stems for similar prices and you may be happier. Two other minor negatives were the lens coating and the case. The lens coating was easily damaged and very difficult to clan when sweat got on them. The hard case has an annoying clasp mechanism and is a bit too thin to fit the glasses well, required a bit of force to close it.

I know it has a line thru the driving thing - take them off at sunset and enjoy... I drive into the sun both directions when commuting, THEY ROCK. Surfing and kite surfing with these is a great experience, get a floating retainer, just in case... you will not want to loose them - the definition is that good. Great climbing the mountains of CA or HI. Great lenses durable frames, and much more ETC! Just the best quality for the money! These are simply No Ka 'Oi!

I've never had much luck with sunglasses. Cheap or expensive. I figure to get one solid month of use out of these in RMNP and Yosemite in Jan. 08 Anything beyond that will just be icing on the cake.

Comments about Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses:
I picked up these glasses this morning to use for climbing and backpacking this summer. I know that these are glacier glasses, but wow!!! Climbed granite slabs with them on all day with no pressure or discomfort. I was told that these work great for very bright conditions, but even in shaded areas my climbing wasn't affected... I'd actually say enhanced!!! Scenery looks better thru these glasses!!! Did I just pitch an HD shades commercial?

Comments about Julbo Sherpa Glacier Glasses:
I bought these for a trip to Mt. Shasta as the ones I wanted were unavailable and I needed them the next day. The glasses performed well and protected my eys from the glare of the snow perfectly. When I was not using them I stored them in the case provided in the top lid of my pack. No scratches after my trip and now I use thes as spares on whatever mountaineering trip I go on.
The bottom line are these are great entry level glacier glasses and if you keep them on your face or in the case they will last a long time. If you want a more durable pair of glacier glasses spend the extra money and get the Julbo Explorers.
