Comments about Coghlan's Mosquito Sticks - Package of 5:
A package of 5 sticks weighs 8 oz., but 3 sticks are plenty for a 4-5 night trip. Suggest bringing a plastic bag to put the sticks in between sites if you will be in more than one campsite. Also bring some heavy duty aluminum foil to place under the sticks to prevent igniting the duff (pierce the stick through the foil). These were obviously designed for use in one place, because after moving them 3 times, they began to fall apart. Worked well for medium infestation of mosquitoes &
flies at Hart Lake in the Railroad Creek Valley (WA).

Comments about Coghlan's Mosquito Sticks - Package of 5:
We used 2 of these sticks each night around our meal areas and tent for 4 nights in Alaska. They do seem to work well and chase most of the flies and biting bugs away (we didn't have much of a mosqutio problem that time of year).
These are difficult to light; you'll probably need 3 matches or a gas stove to generate enough heat to get them to combust at the tip. But once lit, they'll do a slow burn for about an hour or so, releasing smokey vapors that keep the bugs away. They smell a lot like those firework punks as they burn -- kind of like a smokey incense. We actually kind of liked the smell.
A word of warning, though: The delicate ash cone they slowly produce is extremely hot! All 3 people in our party got burned at different times because we moved the sticks and had the fragile 1-2" ash cone collapse on our hands. (In fact, I am still missing the hair on my hand and have a mild burn mark as I type this -- that's how hot the ash stays long after it's burned.)
I will use these again on future trips.

Comments about Coghlan's Mosquito Sticks - Package of 5:
Due to an intense Mosquito season in the NW, we brought these along on our backpacking trip. First time use and they worked out great! Light weight and easy to pack in. I wrapped them in a plastic bag, incase we didn't use all of them and this was helpful for carrying leftovers out.
After the first mosquito greeted us as dusk fall, we lit 3 of these magic mosquito sticks around our campsite and were protected for the rest of the night (camped along the shore of Whatum Lake, Oregon). They lasted for 4+ hours. The smell was not harsh. The only challenge was in trying to light them. After a few tries with matches, we used the fire.
This will be a new stable on the list of must haves for backpacking overnight trips.
