Comments about Backpacker's Pantry Kung Pao Rice with Chicken - 2 Servings:

Tasty and filling backpacking food is a must and Backpacker's Pantry does it right.

The Kung Pao is awesome! Peanuts, vegetables, and rice with spicy peppers. Yum! I found myself licking the bag.

Backpacker's Pantry meals are slick and easy to prepare. Just boil (purified) water, add to bag, and stir. Hardest part is waiting...

Sturdy bag holds up to the heat and doesn't burn your hands. A little messy to eat from but you can just pour it out on mess kits.

If you've been hiking all day this 2-person meal is probably enough for just one (average adult male)

A good meal, although sodium level was higher than other meals. I'll be taking it again on my next trip!

Comments about Backpacker's Pantry Kung Pao Rice with Chicken - 2 Servings:

After climbing Mt Adams and returning to camp, I looked forward to a great meal. Unlike the Backpacker's Pantry Pad Thai I had the night before, I was able to finish it, but I would equate this dinner with the flavor of Ramen noodles. That is being charitable.

Comments about Backpacker's Pantry Kung Pao Rice with Chicken - 2 Servings:

While backpacking in Big Sur, my friend & I boiled some water and wanted for some Kung Pao Chicken-y goodness.

I rarely eat Asian food made by non-Asians. However, this is backpacking food and thus, my expectations are automatically lowered.

Apparently, they were not low enough. After a few spoonfuls, my friend and I exchanged unhappy looks and opted to cook up something else. We decided it might have needed more cook time so we set it aside and tried to reheat it in the morning.

Why are there peanuts in this thing (yes, I realize they are packaged separately but my friend just threw them in without asking me)? I picked out every crunchy peanut. I would have preferred to eat the peanuts on their own.

It was so unappetizing we couldn't finish it. Please heed this warning so you're not in the same predicament. For a good meal, stick to the hearty comfort foods. They're a safe bet.

Comments about Backpacker's Pantry Kung Pao Rice with Chicken - 2 Servings:

This dinner was really bad. The rice was mushy and the sauce was thin and runny. It was spicy in the sense that it burned on the way down, but it was practically flavorless. Couldn't finish it.

This is pretty good. I love Kung Pao anything. The way they spiced it up though it would have been better with Tofu.

the kung pao chicken has decent flavor but the texture was very mushy. the added packet of peanuts did help it a bit but i'd avoid this particular meal in the future.

After a 15 mile day in Rocky Mountain NP I was looking forward to this meal. The rice just lacked texture and flavor and i ditched it after forcing myself to eat half. It's good that you can adjust flavor with peanut and red chile packets, but the rest of it was liking eating mealworms. Better than going without a meal, though.

Comments about Backpacker's Pantry Kung Pao Rice with Chicken - 2 Servings:

I used this on day 8 of a 25 day hike. It was the least flavorful of the 15+ variety I had between Backpackers Pantry and Mountain House. It may be because I didn't add the red peppers (6 year drought area and I was forced to ration water). Did BP think the peppers would be hot enough that any flavor they might add would go unnoticed? Maybe I just got a flavorless batch, who knows?
