Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
Definitely a must buy for anyone used to open platform and toe clip pedals. I hadn't ridden a bike for 15 years. The last bike I owned was a basic hardtail mountain bike with toe clips. When shopping this year for a road bike, I was put off by the fact that most, if not all of the toe clips would catch the front wheel while turning. The clips could have been modified by trimming and cutting, but then why should you have to.
I use these pedals with Keen SPD sandals. The pairing is wonderful.
The added power on the upstroke definitely helps when acceleration is needed an also on ascents. It only took about 30 seconds to get used to entry and exit. FYI the pedals come with SPD cleats in the box. No need to purchase another set of cleats until you where the included ones out.

Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
These pedals can take a beating! Mine have definitely had their own encounters with rocks, roots and my shins (the metal teeth on the platform side do hurt if you catch them).
Overall a wonderful, reliable entry into the SPD world. They are not very light, but if you are just now moving to clipless you probably won't care about weight just yet. Dual sided; the platform has steel teeth on the perimeter for a good grip.
Easy install 5 min max. After a few months of riding with these you may want to upgrade to a lighter set, but even if you choose to hang on to these they are a great pedal so you won't be let down.

Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
Today was my first day to try these pedals, and so far I think they're great. I have a Novara Corsa, which is a hybrid/commuter bike, and I use it around town but also for the occasional adventure race or sub-sub-sub-Ironman.
People have commented here about these pedals being heavy. I'm not cycling savvy, but I imagine they would be heavy for someone who's into racing or even just putting in a lot of miles on a road bike.
But they're definitely sturdy and they function well. I'm new to cleats, so that took a little practice, but I got the hang of it quickly and had no problems getting in and out of the pedals. Now I can jump on my bike in sneakers to zip down the street or my cycling shoes for a longer excursion. Perfect for me.

Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
I am, as it says above, an avid cyclist. I have a 10 mile commute that I, regardless of weather, complete everyday. I also spend my off days bike touring through Europe and its varying climates. So, here is the rub. These pedals are excellent. They are great for my commute because I can jump my bike with whatever shoe I have handy and head off with no worries. Alternatively, when a large training ride our a tour looms ahead I could clip in and really feel the benefits of a more efficient stroke... But then came the rust. After 3 months of use even with a daily wipe down and proper, covered storage of my bike both at work and at home I still had rust start to develop on these pedals. Nicks caused by small stones my have caused the original points of rust on the front and now I have difficulty clipping in because the clip points have begun rusting around the edges as well. This is a great product for the fair weather rider but for any serious commuter looking to get the best of both worlds you had better look again.

Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
I finally went to clipless pedals on my commuting bike (a hybrid). I needed the versatility of clips and platforms because I frequently ride on a corporate campus where I'm negotiating my space with pedestrians and lots of other vehicles, and it simply isn't practical to be clipping in and out just to get moving. Although they're heavy if you're trying to shave ounces off of your bike weight, their benefits far outweigh this minor complaint for cycling in densely populated places.
I keep them adjusted quite loose to allow quick exits and have never come out of one accidentally (even when I started and had them as loose as they'd go). Any clipless pedal will give you a significant increase in pedaling efficiency, but I love that I get it without feeling trapped on the pedals.
Exits are flawless and I've only dumped the bike once in them due to my own failure to anticipate which side I was going to have to exit first.

i bought these because i want to have the option of adding a little muscle to my rides once in a while without having to commit to cleats every time i head out the door. for my purposes (general tooling around town, the occasional long ride) these are perfect. this is my first pair of cleats and they're great for a beginner who doesn't want to stay on the cleat when things get hairy on the road (which happens a lot in urban new england). for me, the weight isn't an issue but the comfort and versatility are. i'd recommend these to anyone who likes to change it up withoug having to change bikes.

Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
Great when starting to use SPD pedals, and to have the option of wearing bike shoes or not. They are on the heavy side for use on a lightweight, higher-end road bike, but great for mountain biking and just general around-town use. I've used mine for over 7 years and love them!

It's great to have the option to pedal in both platform and clipless modes. Have had these for 4 years now and have had no problems. Probably not intended for racing due to their weight. Love em.
Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
Great pedal for clipless beginners, or for those who sometimes ride in regular shoes. Clips can be loosened to the point where clipping in/out is nearly effortless, which is a great confidence booster.
Heavy and large (watch those tight turns!) for sure, but a great way to start.

Comments about Shimano M324 SPD Pedals:
These pedals are a good deal for the price. They are best suited to introducing riders to the use of cleats while allowing for casual shoe use. The adjustment of the spring release is easy and a plus for less experienced riders. I found the SH-51 single release cleats to be very easy to get into and out of the binding. And finding the clip is intuitively easy without looking. The increase in cranking efficiency of the clipped state is awesome on hills and tough grade trails.
