      I have used the rope hook on multiple climbs around Lake Tahoe. The hook is best on multi-pitch (3+), anything less it is just extra gear. If you have a small belay station and/or need help with organization, then this item is helpful. Might take some getting used to, but I will always have 2 hooks with my kit.

      Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

        Only useful on multipitch if you're absolutely inept at rope management like me. I usually pull this thing out for hanging belays to keep the rope out of the way of the follower.
