I bought one of these years ago for a backpacking trip. It soon became my daily coffee mug. Unfortunately my son tried one and these are now his favorite mugs as well. Every time I see one on the shelf I snap it up. My last REI visit they had 2 so I bought them bringing my inventory to 7. It is unfortunate that Snow Peak stuff always seems to be in short supply in stores.

This is intended as an addendum/corrigendum to my review of just a few days ago. In that review, I lamented the fact that REI doesn't carry the very desirable lid for the 450 double-wall mug. I was wrong. They do. When I purchased my mug, quite some time ago, they did not, and I purchased my lid separately. When reviewing the mug, I failed to see that the lid is now offered here online. My apologies to the fine folks at REI. They got it right. Now if Snow Peak would just package the lid with the mug, we'd have mug nirvana.

On my top-five list of favorite pieces of gear is the Snow Peak 450 double-wall mug, and there it shall remain indefinitely. Light, durable, attractive, and functionally well-insulated by the double wall construction, this mug is absolutely perfect, as far as I'm concerned. Hot coffee doesn't cool in minutes in cold weather, one doesn't burn one's delicate fingers in any weather, and it's smooth, rounded-corners interior makes it a breeze to clean.
What's not to like? The price, I suppose. Though if someone else could make one cheaper, I'm sure they would. Also, I'd like it if they included the very nice lid for the mug with the purchase instead of making the user purchase it separately. (And why in the name of common sense doesn't REI carry the lid? IDK, but they don't. Get one elsewhere, it's a useful add-on, making this thing functionally more insulated and keeping stuff out of the coffee, tea, etc.)

Bought this with a dividend so I could live with myself. Thought I would need a lid but it keeps anything you but in it so hot for so long I'd never be able drink it if there was a lid. I use it for my oatmeal at it just doesn't cool off.
Having said all that the cup is amazing. I use it almost every day at work or in the woods. It has a feel and substance that screams quality. While I like the idea of cooking and eating out of the same pot, it just isn't pleasant in reality.

Aesthetically... what's not to love. It's seamless titanium finish is lovely, the edge is comfortable and perfect to drink from, and the fold-down handle is actually quite comfy to hold on to. I always worry about tiny makeshift handles because you assume they won't offer full support, or feel good in the hand, or heat up uncomfortably, but it feels pretty solid.
My only hesitancy is with the weight. I'm trying to stick to minimalist ideals for packing... so it's a tough call that if you want a mug, and minimal weight, you're gonna go with the single wall. I think the convenience you get from the insulation outweighs the negatives in weight and slightly higher price.
Looking forward to using this mug for decades to come!

I actually haven't taken this cup backpacking yet, but I can see that it will be perfect. It is very light and it keeps beverages warm without burning your hands. The titanium is very strong; this cup should last many years. 5 stars as a backpacking cup.
I've been trying to use it for everyday use based on many comments here, but have to say I'm a little disappointed. There's something about the feel of the metal against my lips, and the clang of a spoon when stirring it, that puts me off a little. A porcelain mug, though heavier and less insulated, just feels more comfortable to drink from. But these subjective feelings aside, it makes a good everyday cup.

I use this Snow Peak product everyday. I would give it a full 5 stars, but as REI sells it it is incomplete. Sadly nobody else sells it complete either though. What is missing? A lid and a carry bag!
SnowPeak sells the lid for this, and it makes a BIG difference in keeping the drink warm! They also got me a stuff sack for it too.
I would also like to see REI carry the colored versions of this mug. The colors defiantly add some coolness points to it!

This thing is the most ridiculous extravagance I have ever heard of! [$] for a coffee mug? Give me a break!Now that I got that off my chest, I have to admit that I truly love this mug. It is definitely one of my favorites. Just the right size (for me), keeps things hot long enough to drink them, and doesn't get hot on the outside at all. If it wasn't so danged expensive, I'd buy another one. Actually, I might anyway. I haven't decided yet. I really wanted to love this mug. Overall, it just keeps your beverage about 12 degrees hotter than an ordinary mug or cup. Being double walled, you can hold your hot beverage with your bare hands comfortably but that's what the handles are for anyway. The single walled version is not uncomfortably hot to sip from. I've returned this cup for the single wall. It just wasn't worth it.
Pros: Looks cool. Light.
Cons: Can't cook with it. Barely performs better than an ordinary mug.
