Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I really love this lantern - it is so tiny, there is no reason to hesitate taking it along. It runs on the same fuel canisters as many stoves, so being able to bring one type of fuel is convenient.
Snow Peak would do well to redesign the ignitor - the spark is too far from the mantle and does not always light. I bent it closer, and that seemed to help.
You can buy an unbreakable mesh globe separately, but I did not like it because wind gets in, and the quality of light is ugly. The glass one is fine, although I wish it were frosted so the light would be less harsh. It would be nice if there were some kind of hanger.
Although not perfect, this lantern is tiny, lightweight, and creates a lot of light. If I ever lose it, I'd replace it with the same thing.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
Borrowed this from a friend for use on a weeklong camping trip in AZ. The lantern is small and conveniently uses the same fuel as the Gigapower Stove, which is an upside. The downside is that the light output is very disappointing. The packaging states the output is equivalent to an 80 watt bulb, in actual use, it may seem like a 25 watt bulb. I tried 3 different mantles (snow peak, coleman, and primus), but was never able to get the light output to remotely come close to 80 watts. The lantern's ignition rods need to be bent inwards towards the mantle to achieve single click lighting. This was told to me by Snow Peak's customer service agent. Every new mantle installation requires and adjustment of the metal rods of the ignitor. The lack of hanging lanyard is annoying.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I've had one of these lanterns for about 4 years now and I love it. It's extremely lightweight and won't take up valuable pack space. I basically carry 2 lanterns with us when we backpack. I keep a small battery powered LED lantern for use inside our tent and use this lantern for lighting up the campsite at night. This lantern uses the same fuel canisters that our Jetboil uses, so we will usually just bring 1 canister and use it for both our cooking and lighting. And speaking of fuel, this thing will burn forever on a single can of fuel. I've never tested the maximum burn time on 1 can of fuel, but I have let this lantern burn for several hours without coming close the running out of fuel. A great little lantern!

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
The ignition does not work, period. Here is what I did…….With wire cutters (for a clean cut), I cut the shorter grey wire to a little over 2 cm. Then cut the larger copper wire to just over an inch and then bend it 90 degrees to the shorter grey wire. I did it so that the bends and distance were within the same relation as before. With the ignition lower and closer to the gas, it starts without problems. It has worked for me again and again on the first try……. So no promises and I can assure you it will void the warranty; for all I know they put it that high for safety reasons?

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
Great product. Bought it over 7 years ago as a go along with the stove. Have loved it... has never disappointed me. Well, that's not entirely true. The ignition always fires, but never lights the light; however, it lights easily with a match.
Yesterday was the 1st time it failed me in 7 years. I called Snow Peak just 10 minutes ago and was given an RMA number and told to send it back so they could repair it for free. Customer service doesn't get any better than that!

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
The good:
This is a very bright light. I'm not sure why others have reviewed it stating it doesn't put out it's rated 80 watts. I have no complaints at all with it's output. Very satisified in this respect.
The bad:
The autoignitor is completely and entirely useless. It produces a spark faithfully but fails every time to light the lantern. It's not that it's defective, it's a flawed design. The autoignitors on other lanterns are shaped differently and place the spark much closer/within the mantel. It's such a discouraging addition to this otherwise great lantern. I've gone so far as to remove mine from my lantern. The good news is it lights perfectly and easily with a match with no effort.
Customer service from Snow Peak is pretty much non-existent. This really surprised me. Their web site has multiple email addresses, and clearly states to email one of them should you have a question/etc... I've sent several emails over the past few weeks without so much as a single response or autoreply.
Overall:
I like this lantern despite it's flaws, and I'm glad that I own it, but I would not buy it again because of the company's lack of support. The primus easylite or micron would be a better alternative.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I found this lantern to be quite bright- more than suitable to light up a campsite. It's quite small, has a very form fitting carrying case, and seems pretty well built. The mantels and the autoignitor however leave something to be desired. Putting the mantel on is relatively straight forward- but I found if you didn't place the autoignitor's electrodes inside the mantel, it just wouldn't light. I'm pretty sure this will eventually ruin my autoignitor as the electrode glows red hot as a result of being within the mantel. It's much easier to light with a match (a no brainer really). Buy extra mantels right away- it only comes with one and if you're like me, you'll mess that first one up.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I used this tiny lantern backpacking for the first time in November, so our group would have a bright focal point to stay up together longer. I had set it up with the mantle in advance and it tested just fine, but when I tried to light it at camp we had a heck of a time. It wouldn't even light with a match. It appeared to us that the fuel was leaking out little holes at the base, so we plugged a couple of them with the end of matchsticks and it lit fine with the tiny igniter spark. When we took one out the light turned brighter. In addition, this tiny lamp gets pretty warm which is appreciated on a cold night where campfires are not permitted. I'll be using this lantern again, but hope the problem can be resolved on this model in the future.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I am using this lantern in an Igloo at over 9,000ft of elevation on a daily basis. I like it alot, it lights up my igloo wonderfully, and does a great job of adding some heat before I go to bed for the night.
The set up of the mantles is a bit of a pain and a bit confusing if you've never done it before, but after you've done it once, it makes sense, and the second time is much easier. I used my stove to light the mantle, it works alot better than trying to use matches or a lighter. Also I've discovered that you can use coleman slip on mantles and they work just as well as the Snow Peak mantles and are much easier to find.
The cons of this lantern are that it doesn't work well in cold temps or at high altitude, especially the piezoelectric lighter doesn't like to work, however if you warm the fuel bottles up by putting them in your jacket, or by keeping them in your sleeping bag with a bottle full of hot water for a few mins, they will light and burn much brighter than if they are cold. This isn't really the fault of the lantern as much as a cold hard fact of using canister fuel in cold temps and at high altitude. (although the cold is more of a factor than the atmospheric pressure) The other drawback of this lantern is that it is fairly expensive, there are less expensive lanterns out there but I haven't used them so I can't speak to their performance, but I'm pleased with my Snow Peak, it performs well with a little TLC I only give it 4 stars because it's so pricey. Also, I supposed that the heat output could be a drawback for some, I definitely would not use this in a tent, but It's a plus for my application

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I bought this to go with my Giga Power stove so I could have a no-size light and carry a single fuel for both stove and lantern. Turns out I never use the lantern backpacking -- I just can't bring myself to use food-fuel on a lantern, just in case. Instead, I carry a small LED lantern + a 220-lumen ultra-light flashlight for backpacking, and use the Giga Power "hiking" lantern for work-camping. Don't get me wrong -- I love this lantern as a site light. It's tiny, efficient, and very bright. It gets very hot, so I don't hang it unless I can wedge a good horizontal bar in place from which to suspend it. I've never had trouble lighting the Giga Power with the piezo, but I have had the mantle melt onto the piezo more than once when priming the mantle. In which case, you have to pick the mantle off carefully, or you can damage the auto-lighter. No real reservations about the lantern except that I just won't use it as I had intended. I liked it enough to buy another as a backup light in remote areas.
