Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I originally bought this to compliment my Giga Power Stove (which is 5 star). Upon using it, it was hard to light. The piezo lighter doesn't work as good as it does on the stove. The light output is so-so; nothing to write home about. You can't use it in your tent, because it gets so hot that if you accidently touched the tent it would instantly melt, if not set the tent on fire; plus the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. Save your money and go for one of the compact battery operated lanterns availabe. They are more practicle. You don't have to carry around extra fuel canisters or worry about using your cooking fuel.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I've taken this backpacking - when I've had a few ounces to spare - and really enjoyed it. Makes a late night clean up or card game really fun. particularly useful for fall or winter camping with fewer daylight hours. I find the Snow Peak superior to the Burntron due to the lighter weight and white light (Bruntron has an orange glow)and it is cheaper. Don't get the mesh globe - it is hard to light. Carry extra mantles as they are a bit fragile.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I bought this to go with my Giga Power stove so I could have a no-size light and carry a single fuel for both stove and lantern. Turns out I never use the lantern backpacking -- I just can't bring myself to use food-fuel on a lantern, just in case. Instead, I carry a small LED lantern + a 220-lumen ultra-light flashlight for backpacking, and use the Giga Power "hiking" lantern for work-camping. Don't get me wrong -- I love this lantern as a site light. It's tiny, efficient, and very bright. It gets very hot, so I don't hang it unless I can wedge a good horizontal bar in place from which to suspend it. I've never had trouble lighting the Giga Power with the piezo, but I have had the mantle melt onto the piezo more than once when priming the mantle. In which case, you have to pick the mantle off carefully, or you can damage the auto-lighter. No real reservations about the lantern except that I just won't use it as I had intended. I liked it enough to buy another as a backup light in remote areas.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
The auto ignition stopped working after several uses so I use a match now, its very bright but its not for tent use. After the glass globe broke, I use the mesh globe.
Alittle on the pricey side.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I am using this lantern in an Igloo at over 9,000ft of elevation on a daily basis. I like it alot, it lights up my igloo wonderfully, and does a great job of adding some heat before I go to bed for the night.
The set up of the mantles is a bit of a pain and a bit confusing if you've never done it before, but after you've done it once, it makes sense, and the second time is much easier. I used my stove to light the mantle, it works alot better than trying to use matches or a lighter. Also I've discovered that you can use coleman slip on mantles and they work just as well as the Snow Peak mantles and are much easier to find.
The cons of this lantern are that it doesn't work well in cold temps or at high altitude, especially the piezoelectric lighter doesn't like to work, however if you warm the fuel bottles up by putting them in your jacket, or by keeping them in your sleeping bag with a bottle full of hot water for a few mins, they will light and burn much brighter than if they are cold. This isn't really the fault of the lantern as much as a cold hard fact of using canister fuel in cold temps and at high altitude. (although the cold is more of a factor than the atmospheric pressure) The other drawback of this lantern is that it is fairly expensive, there are less expensive lanterns out there but I haven't used them so I can't speak to their performance, but I'm pleased with my Snow Peak, it performs well with a little TLC I only give it 4 stars because it's so pricey. Also, I supposed that the heat output could be a drawback for some, I definitely would not use this in a tent, but It's a plus for my application

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
This lantern is a good compliment to the Snow Peak stove. It uses the same fuel canister and the carry case is only slightly larger. However, it is expensive, light output is marginal for it's size, and burns too hot to use anywhere but outside. The mesh globe is safer than the glass one but costs extra. For a hanging chain, I ordered an extra Campingaz chain from Coleman. Use this lantern if you are enjoying an evening dinner by moonlight. If you need a nightlight for your tent, use a small battery lantern. These are only slightly larger and heavier than the Snow Peak lantern and don't burn fuel cylinders needed to cook with.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
I bought this thinking this was the end all of backpacking lanterns. It's not nearly the 80 w output stated. I ended up buying a Primus lantern that is twice as bright and and way easier to light. The only thing this lanter has going for it is its compact size.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
Lantern failed to light first night of 5 in the rocky's, after 2 hours of rebuilding and configuring it lit with large flame had to let burn till mantle started to glow then light output wasn't even worth it. OVERPRICED!

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
If you can find a manual version of this lantern, get that instead. It puts out a lot of light, but I can never get the lighter to work and always end up turning to my zippo. It puts out a lot of heat along with the light, but I like that in the Winter, especially along trails where fires aren't an option.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Lantern:
This is a full little toy to have. Very bright. It should however come with a little chain or something so you can hang it up. Also an extra mantle would be nice for the [$] price. At times it is hard to light and you are better off lighting it with a match than the ignition.
