Read More This thing has lasted me a good seven years. Even after a friend broke the clip holding the batteries in the case it worked like a dream with a bit of duct tape. Mostly it was used for tinkering around camp and reading after dark on backpacking trips, and had more than sufficient brightness for that. I was never sure about battery power so I always took an extra couple sets batteries just in case. However, it seemed to last just fine for short backpacking trips. Unfortunately it finally failed me, of all times, hours before setting off for the summit of Andean volcano Cotopaxi. Overall a great deal, you're in the outdoors, supposedly roughing it, you don't need anything more than this. -

Read More I've owned this headlamp for over 10 years and it's still ticking. And I've taken in all over the world in many different environments: marine biology trips, caving, general touring, etc. It was my first headlamp, so I've moved on to more high-tech models since. I use it as a backup/flashlight now. Pros are obvious: durability and stability. That's where it ends, since technology has surpassed this dinasour. Battery life leaves something to be desired, kinda heavy, no adjustments on beam, much duller than LED...all things that newer models get right. Also, I've found it impossible to find a replacement for the elastic band of this specific type and mine wore out awhile back. Bottome line, it's like a wife, not a girlfriend...not exciting or high-tech, but durable, reliable and in there for the long haul. Good as a backup or for beginners, kids, or someone who dabbles in recreational activity as opposed to someone who lives it. -

Read More There're a lot of LED lamps out there now, but this low-tech lamp I owned just never dies, until near ten years later the battery compartment was corroded. Battery life is what you'd expect from a low-tech incandescent bulb, but it has been so reliable, and I carried a spare bulb on over-night trips. Once in a while I read horror reviews about unreliable LED lamps, so I'm getting another one to replace my original that died. -

Read More I've owned a Quest for nearly 7-8 years. It's been very reliable and sturdy--it withstood the rigors of numerous backpacking trips, adventure races, rainstorms, snowstorms, and falls. In terms of size, it's a good choice. Nice and light weight. Mine still has the original bulb in it too, and it continues to work well. Only downside (which can be vital when backpacking) is battery life. Battery life is a major concern, and batteries just don't seem to last too long with this one. If you're doing short hikes or car camping, it's darn near perfect. I'f you'll be going into the Canadian Rockies and don't want to haul a few extra sets of batteries, go with another model that has LED's. -
Sep 22, 2007great light for the moneyMy kids have used these for 2 years now! I can't believe the battery still works. We have one for every kid. This is one of items that the kids LOVE!
Read More I bought this as a backup to my lighter Princeton Tec and I am glad I did. My battery clip broke on my more expensive headlamp and fortunatly I had this as a backup. This headlamp is a bit heavy and you know its on your head. It is stable though and does have an adjustable angle lamp to help direct the light. Lights the way good and feels solid. I have never had a problem with this headlamp but it does have some drawbacks such as not being LED and its weight.
