Comments about Petzl Ultra Light Pulley:
I have had a few of these and have used this pulley in the field for various uses. I've hauled a partner through a tricky spot, attempted to raise someone during injured climber exercises, used to set trayloean traverses, slacklines and several other uses. Normally I really like Petzl gear. It's compact, easy to see and that's about all the good of it. Unfortunately when it comes time to use this thing, you'll really wish you had something better. If used on a D shaped carabiner it will break at very low loads. If exposed to cold weather and you squeeze in a chimney you can break it. When actually hauling someone I have had these crack at only slightly more than bodyweight even when properly used with the Petzl OK locking oval carabiners (what Petzl recommends). This can only be properly used with an oval carabiner, so keep that in mind as most people do not carry a locking oval with them when they have these.A lot of climbers carry these around as a just in case but very few have ever used them in real life. If they ever do, they'll probably start hauling something else instead. If you do choose to carry one of these, please seek proper rescue training. Depending on an emergency only and lightweight device such as this could leave you or your partner in a serious jam.As an alternative backup device I would suggest comparing it to the DMM pulley carabiner [...] It won't fail or crack and can serve as a traditional carabiner.

Comments about Petzl Ultra Light Pulley:
Don't get this for an emergency pulley--won't function. You have to specifically use an oval biner (who carries those anymore?) and, more importantly, even when using an oval, the wheel is too narrow for it's diameter--meaning that the wheel capsizes (rope slips off the wheel) within 3ft of hauling and then gets pinched between wheel and biner spine. Pulley's are useful for emergency situations, but get a real (lightweight) pulley or get a DMM Revolver.

Comments about Petzl Ultra Light Pulley:
This emergency pulley works great for re-directing your rope.
