REI Members get back an estimated 10% on this item as part of their annual member refund.

    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Nathan 3M Reflective Ankle Band is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sometimes simple is good Even in the foot-powered paradise of Portland, Oregon, there are places that it isn't terribly safe for a pedestrian or a bicyclist to be. Sidewalks are non-existant, bike lanes either don't exist or are full of detritus and overgrown with thick, thorny brush, etc. And of course the traffic moves through those areas at 55 MPH. Naturally, I need to go to such parts of town rather more often than is recommended for a person who does not want to go splat, so I headed down to my local (Pearl district store) REI to see if they had products to make that less likely. Indeed they had several reflective bands, light-up bands, blinkies, beacons, you name it. And based on the Preon P2 on high test, this simple band was the single brightest-reflecting band they had. It was also the least expensive. I bought several! At present, these bands are made a little better than some reviewer complaints are suggesting. The velcro is sewn (at the ends) on the examples I brought home. I don't know if I would say the stitching is terribly impressively strong, but it'll hold up to regular duty use and perhaps some amount of abuse. It's not ruggedized hard-use gear by any means, so bear that in mind. The reflective strap is 10 inches, and there's about four more inches of velcro if that's not quite enough for your ankles. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting them on most ankles, many arms, and men's wrists. The way I tend to use them, however, is to wrap them through tie points on my backpack. Depending on your pack, they'll hold in place well and since you won't likely remove them often, the stitching on the velcro is not at all a concern for me. The other way I use these things for emergency preparedness, which is what I do professionally. You should have some emergency supplies, but you want neither in a big red backpack that says "EMERGENCY KIT" nor something that looks like Army Rangers might carry it. Both are gonna get you into trouble pretty quick. A simple, common backpack works well, but you want to be able to find it in the dark pretty quick. So add one or two of these to it and the moment a flashlight hits it, you know exactly where it is. If you have need, you can remove it and stuff the strap inside the backpack for later use. Bottom line: Any time you need something to be a little more visible in the dark, these'll help. You, your stuff, whatever. Just keep in mind they're not seriously heavy duty, except in terms of how bright they get when light shines on them. And that's the point. Get a few of them, because you'll find stuff to attach them to. :)
