Comments about Kelty Noah's Tarp - 12' x 12':
I love this tarp and use it all the time. The solid grommets allow for easy and secure ties, whatever your location.
I have used it in the blistering sun to absolute downpours that lasted all day. This is a great tarp.
I first ordered the larger 16 x 16 size and returned it. WAY TOO BIG. This one is nice for a group of five people and gear getting out of the rain and cooking underneath.
I would be very interested in the 9 x 9 size if it were just me or me and a friend. This is a great product.

Bought this tarp yesterday to use for shade. Set it up on the lawn today to try it out. The material is too thin, it got really really hot under it. The thin material does not block enough of the sun's energy and since it blocks the wind there is little air movement under the tarp.
Not recommended for use for shade in hot climates under a strong sun.

This is a great item for setting up over the picnic table when car camping or as a lightweight backpacking shelter or over a tent for extreme wet weather protection. Having used similar tarps before where there are plenty of trees, I don't bring poles. I just bring long lines: 50' for the center support and 25' for the corners.

I purchased this for shade during RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). I found it difficult to set up with two people and almost impossible with one...especially with even a light breeze. Once set up, the material was so thin, it did not block enough of the sun to provide significant relief.

The 12x12 tarp is the perfect size to provide sun/rain shelter over a campground table with room to spare. The many grommets and attachment points allow versatility to meet different siting conditions. FYI, The 16x16 is harder to handle due to its larger size. I suggest purchasing two telescoping 9' poles for use when there are no trees, as long as pole size and weight are not a problem. The product could be improved by using larger diameter guylines containing reflective threads for improved visibility. The black guylines are very lightweight and easy to trip over in the dark. Carabiners are handy to quickly attach guylines to trees. Tarp is ok for use in light to moderate winds only. Best tarp for the price.

Best product of it's kind in the price range by far. Loops are reinforced good for drum tight rigging (and wind). Doesn't leak. Durable. Comes with a great slim stuff sack. Use it to comfortably cook in the rain!

As a Scoutmaster, and the person that pulls the trailer everymonth, I have always wished that the Scouts would pack lighter. After letting them use my Noah's Tarp 16 one camp out, they all want to use it now. I have personally bought them for My Eagle Scouts. They get plenty of use. THey get plenty of abuse. They are easy to repair. They go anywhere. What more do you need. Buy it.

Great tarp. Can be used on it's own for over night shelter. I've used this to expand my vestibule, as well as used this as a sun block durning a hot sunny camping trip.

We have two of these that we use for car camping and as shade structures for remote construction projects. The setup is easy and the covered area is very generous - however, these shelters aren't appropriate for areas that are going to have a lot of wind. Inconsistent 20 mile an hour winds have broken the guy lines on both units. As you might expect from the shape, in high winds it tends to act more like a of a sail than a shelter. I think this product is probably best suited for less extreme environments.
