      The primary things I look for when I buy something from REI is durability, lightness, and compactness. This is all of those, I looked at several spatulas when I bought this one and it seemed that with whatever I was working with it wouldn't break and at the same time folded and was lightweight. I do like it now that I've used it but I wish I could scoop food with it at the same time. I still haven't seen a product that serves as a spatula and a scoop at the same time but that would definitely beat this product. Good buy but keep in mind that you might want to scoop food out of the pot.

          Convenient size, ie. not overly large so it will work well with smaller pans. Useful for pancakes but I'm not a big "pancake in the woods" fan. But this is really useful for flipping/turning over some fish fry. It needs one little adjustment in my opinion - on the top of the blade on both left and right corners, it could use some small indents so you can hold/grip/steady food in one hand while tipping the pan, etc. I've done this on my own version and it adds versatility to the kitchen tool.

          Lightweight and suitable for small group camping/backpacking. If lighweight solo backpacking, it likely will not be brought on the trip.

            I was pretty excited about using this spat, it was small, lightweight, and a brand I trust. The first time I used it, I was making pancakes over a Pocket Rocket. It only touched the pan's surface for less than a few seconds at a time, but the edge of the spatula melted. It is still usable, but definitely not heat resistant. Also, the only reason it was difficult to clean is because stuff was stuck in the melted crags.
