Comments about Slime Presta Tube - 700 x 19 - 25:
I went through three of these in a row. Two seemed to have holes in them before I even got them on the bike! The slime inside has never done a thing to stop the leaks. It does make it impossible to apply a patch to the tube. From what I've read, slime tubes seem to work alright for mountain bikes, but these 700c's are just a messy waste of time and money. I rue the day I bought these worthless inner tubes!

The tube split at the seam when I inflated it. It made a huge mess. I thought I'd never get the wheel cleaned up.
Never again.

Had a small puncture, green slime filled in, but subsequently seemed to let air out pretty quickly. Did not appear to make much of a difference for the higher price.

I just installed this tube a few days ago, the first thing I noticed was it is pretty heavy compared to normal tubes. Inflating the tire was a little messy, even at the 10 or 2 o'clock position as stated in the directions, slime still sprayed out a little. I haven't had a flat with the slime tube yet, so I cannot commented on the self healing ability. They do the job of keeping inflated, but for the price I don't think they are worth it. When the time comes to get another replacement I don't plan on buying slime tubes again.

Tried these yesterday for the first time. After inflating it started leaking immediately. Pinhole just behind the valve. Lots of green slime leaked out but it did nothing useful to plug the tiny hole. Tried to patch it but the slime prevents the patch from sticking (actually it stuck just long enough to get 3 miles from home). Interwebs say that patching these pretty much never works. Going back to regular tubes and a pack of scabs for punctures (which do always work for me...)

poor quality rubber ruptured around 10 psi below min tire psi and made a huge mess as green slime sprayed everywhere,
did not even want slime I got them because heard they used a better quality rubber then other companies... they use the same crude quality and they make a mess of things when they break that is hard to clean up.
terrible idea. i will try to buy non slime tubes when they break they are easy to clean up.

Don't bother buying a Slime tube. While sitting in the box on the shelf all the slime gathers in one area of the rube making it impossible to inflate evenly. I went through 3 of them (with one acutally popping on me...green slime everywhere) before I gave up and returned them to REI as junk.

The valve stem broke the minute I pumped up the tire. Green slime leaked all over.
There is a far more effective flat tire preventor:
CAREFULLY look over every inch of your outer tire before every ride.
I mark blemishes with Whiteout Correction fluid and keep anextra sharp eye on these spots.
I had 2 flats last year: 3,700 miles. Both flats happened in the same 6 foot strip of driveway.

Once inflated, the slime blocks the valve so that you need to let a little air out to be able to pump them back up, but that's not a big deal. The problem is that they don't stop or seal leaks at all. I've gone through several of these and all they're good for is spraying green slime all over your bike and making a mess out of replacement. I have also had the valve stem separate from the rest of the tubes on several of these, which has never been a problem for me with any other tubes.
Bottom line, absolute garbage.

I discovered slime on the single track of West Texas where everything either has thorns, is poisonous or both but I've since converted all six of my bicycles to slime. Slime doesn't eliminate flats, but the extra weight is well worth the decrease in the number of flats. As a daily commuter, I've found that even after a flat, a slime tube can be inflated enough to "just get home". It may not hold 120 psi, but 20 psi is enough to avoid a road side change. In the winter and in the dark, its worth the extra money.
