I am an idiot and even I could get these to work.

Light weight, easy to use, stays on fire for long enough. I have not been camping for a long time sadly. I got these because, well, they were the cheapest option REI had. Was nervous about my fire making skills in front of my girlfriend, but these made even me look like I knew what I was doing. 5/5 will awkwardly fumble myself to success again.

I feel I need to comment here, to at least give a different opinion to all the 5 star reviews already presented. IMO, the cons of these firestarters are many: 1. While I do keep them in a Ziploc bag, they crumble apart and basically turn into a big mess in the bag. If you use them only to light your fireplace at home, then you may not have to worry, but if you're packing them on the trail - not so good. 2. They don't light easily - I think holding a match to a dry log would light faster. 3. They're very bulky. Bottom line, don't waste your money. If you like the store-bought solution for starting fires, fire paste works much better. If you like the DIY solution, cotton balls impregnated with petroleum jelly work very well, as do fire starters made from wax and dryer lint poured in a cardboard egg container. I've used/made the above 3 alternatives, and ALL of them are far superior to this product. Pair them with a flint rod and striker and you're good to go. The crumbled mess that remains of these things will be going in the trash.

Cut 'em up

I can't praise these things enough. I bought them a few months back and have used them at every camping opportunity where a fire is allowed. I don't use a whole nugget - I cut them into four pieces and put them in my fire kit. I knew they were going to work well when I had left a nugget out on my porch and forgot about it. After four days (with plenty of rain in between) I found it in my fire pit, lit it up, and it burned easily and hot.

Great- Even in wet conditions

This product will make all your friends think that you have been starting fires in the womb. The little scoop will burn hot and long giving you more than enough time to get some little sticks lit. Your camp will be so lit, lil Jon & the east side boyz may show up. I usually pack three nuggets (enough for two nights + a spare) in a ziplock bag. It stays dry, lights easily, burns for a long time.

i use these with my esbit cookset, instead of the esbit fuel tabs. one nugget will burn about 10-15 min, same as esbit. unlike the fuel tabs, there non-toxic and dont leave a sticky residue. only downsides... the nuggets dont pack as easy and can be a little crumbly.

Excelent fire starter!

I took this product on a recent kayaking trip. It works great! Our wood was damp from a recent rain, it was a low 30s night, and we threw a couple of these crazy nuggets into the bottom of our smoldering stack of sticks and they got the fire going. They lasted quite a while, and boosted the fire like none other! Very easy to use. It only took a match or two to light. They are crushable so you don't have to use the whole nugget. It only takes two to light a campfire and there's twelve in a pack!I would totally use this product again for sure!

Best Fire Starter for the Money!!!

This is hands down for the money the best fire starter you can get. These nuggets are huge with enough burn time to boil a canteen cup or cook a meal. I use and review many tinders, fire starters, outdoor gear, so I did not have any problems with this. But I would like to point out something that is not included in the instructions that will help you every time you use this product. First off the easiest way to light is to crumble up a corner and place it on top to light. Works every time. I have also put a cotton ball, grass, corn silk, cattail fluff, on top and lit that to ignite. The method chosen also depends on what you are using to start it. (flint & steel, fire steel, matches, lighters) But the fire making principles are the same, you wouldn't try to light a whole log on fire with a single match, so use these tips and tricks and you have great success and will get more burn time and usage than any other starter out there. I also will crush a whole one with a hammer and put it in a small round tin with a lid for a portable igniter. Yes, if you leave these in a bag to get beat around they will crumble and fall apart. This doesn't make them any less useful and they will still ignite. If this is a concern for you then put them in a kit or container along with your other tinders. I love the fact these a waterproof, light, always work, burn clean, and about half the price of most fire starters out there. Best value for the money!

Don't waste your money

I bought these because they said they were easy to light. If you looking to use them to start a fire, don't waste your money. Once they are lit they do burn for a few minutes (didn't time it) but they are very difficult to start. I tried on multiple occasions to light them and could not. I finally decided to use a lit fire and hold it over the fire to light them. That did work, but if I already have a fire going why do i need these?

Little tough to get going, then you're good

Nice, compact and lightweight firestarting gear. Burns for a long time once lit. The only problem is it sometimes takes a lot of fire to get them going, which kind of defeats the purpose. But if you have a little paper, dry moss or something to start, and want a little boost to get from there to getting your kindling going, this is a good option.
