Read More Close, but no cigar. These are nice socks: warm and comfortable. I wish they were better crafted. They fall about 3-4 inches short of being over the calf height, as I expect mountaineering socks to be. And, they are not well crafted enough to stay up on their own otherwise. They fall, and they bunch up at the top of your boots. I am 5'10", average build, boot 12D. I tried the appropriately sized XL. I really wish they were crafted/fit better. They will be nice for lounging around the house, but not for out in the field. -

Read More Great product! In terms of warmth, they hold heat all day. I spent a day on the slopes in Colorado with them and never had any issue. Usually, my feet get cold a few hours into any outdoor activity in the the winter, but with these I never noticed any creeping coldness. However, with the good comes the bad. The reason I gave them 4 stars was because they fit a bit large. While they are super warm the elastic band at the top that fits around the calf is the only part of the sock that seems to stay formed around your leg. Everything else fits loosely. Although there is this issue, the primary reason for purchasing this sock is warmth and under that criteria it passes. I would recommend this sock. -

Read More I use these socks on a daily basis in the fall, winter, and spring. After wearing the first pair over and over, I decided that I should get more before I wear out the first pair. I own 3 pairs to cycle through the week. They are cushy, very comfortable, and keep your feet warm and dry. After a long hike with a heavy pack, it's my legs that are hurting, not my feet. I prefer these socks over every other pair of socks I have tried, besides the SmartWool Hiking socks for the summer. A+ -

Read More I got these to keep my feet warm when unexpected 20 to 30 degree weather came in while using a +25 sleeping bag. Wearing two other pairs of socks underneath them, my toes still got cold. At 27-30 it was ok, but from 26 and under toes were cold in the morning. They're clearly nice socks otherwise and probably good for intended use, however in my situation they just didn't perform as I would have liked. -

Read More This sock coupled with a good liner (I tend to size my liners one size smaller so they don't bunch) is the perfect combination for a summit climb. Wore these on Mt Adams this past summer and my feet stayed perfectly warm in my old set of Raichle boots (didn't have enough to break in my new La Sportiva's). This is warm sock, and does a good job wicking away the moisture. Also they are bulky. So if you hike the year round in a medium to heavy hiking/backpacking sock, this sock is one-up from that. Don't try to cram you foot into a snug boot (I buy mine 1/2 size larger for this reason), it will defeat the purpose and keep your feet cold. They are spendy, but this will be the one and only pair of winter/mountaineering socks you'll ever need to own. Hike on! -

Read More These socks are great for hiking and especially for wildland firefighting. They are very comfortable to wear even in warm weather like southern California during the summer months. Great moisture wicking. The only complaint in the price but you get what you pay for. I really like these and plan to maybe get more when my current socks wear out.
Read More So, we should start by saying these are the best mountaineering socks currently available. But, the best could be better. First, I believe mountaineering socks should be "over the calf," these fall a few inches short. Second, I have massive calf muscles and these socks are not built strong enough to stay up. Other than those two incredibly important items, these are the best socks I've ever owned. Thicker than anything you've ever seen. Super comfy and blister free wether you hiking 20 miles, climbing mixed terrain, pushing for the summit or just sitting on the porch with some coffee. Fortunately my base layer is tight enough to keep the sock up for the most part. But they still continually manage to slide down. I've entertained the idea of a sock garter, but seriously, what mountaineer wears those? Overall these guys get 3 stars. Please build a taller and stronger sock.
