The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Reliance Desert Patrol - 3 gal.:
I have been carrying water jugs for more years than I care to reveal, camping, hauling water for daily life etc. The usual 5 gallon containers are too unwieldy and too heavy for me. 3 gallons is a good capacity, and weightwise, when full, two are not too heavy to carry a reasonable distance and they balance well. Furthermore the stubby little profile means they don't tip over. I use them car camping but also intend to use a bunch of them on a canoe trip in the Everglades this winter, and then winter camping to haul on a sled into a cabin. They'd also fit ok into a backpack for a desert campout.

The spout tucks away cleverly, but watch out for the rear air vent (little white plug). I needed to drain the water line below the plug in order to ensure the container wouldn't leak.

Lid leaks. Returned. Lid leaks on number two Third time might work but I'll never know. Have been with REI since there was only one store in Seattle. This is the worst product I have ever purchased and the the first thing I have ever had to return.

Maybe this only applies to those of us who are on the water or in the desert, but UV protection is important.
These things fall apart after about a year or so. They get brittle, and 3 gallons of water equals 24 pounds, which is enough to smash the UV degraded plastic.
If you're keeping it in the car or whatever, I suppose it's fine, but don't expect this to stand up to being outside for weeks / months in the sunshine.
Since it's that disposable, just carry three one gallon water jugs from the store.

The first thing I did when I got this jug was fill it with water and turn it upside down. It leaked horribly... Not just a little drip, but gushing fluid... I checked the cap, screwed it on as tight as I could, and tried again with similar results.
As a result, I must now take extra precautions to make sure the water is strapped securely in my truck so that it won't tip over. If it does tip over, the leak is such that the whole container would empty before I had time to notice.
I haven't decided whether to return this or not...

As others have said, it's a good size for lugging around, with a reasonably comfortable handle. With the air vent open and the spout in place, it pours super-smoothly. Narrow profile allows for multiple placement points in a Jeep, can lash the handle to the sports cage for extra protection against spillage. Also came in handy when a mid-winter waterline repair went wonky and left me hauling water from a neighbor for 4 days. Only minor whine might be the air vent - it's sealed with a conical plug that wedges into the hole, and on bumpy offroads it'll sometimes work itself loose. Not a big deal, but a cap that snapped/clipped tightly into place would be slightly better.

I use this container as an emergency water supply. I like the fact its BPA free. I use a bungee cord to secure it in my trunk. However, The only down side was once it tipped over (on its side)and started to slowly leak. So if you store it in your car make sure to secure it and keep it upright or it will leak.

This jug is the perfect size for one person to fill and carry. The handle is well-designed and makes it easy to handle. The spout is also the perfect size and configuration for filling the water tank of my pop-up trailer.

Comments about Reliance Desert Patrol - 3 gal.:
As others have noted this container leaks. I tipped it on its side and it quickly spilled all over the place. This is due to the finicky o-ring installed on the spout of the nozzle that is bound to break down over time and/or get lost. Really awful design and completely unreliable. It was also pointed out in other reviews that the vent plug isn't very reliable and certainly isn't confidence inspiring. How a product that so readily leaks can have the word "Reliance" associated with it is beyond me. REI shouldn't even carry such a product in my opinion. I would rather have only more expensive, quality, options available to me than this relatively useless product. Otherwise why not just shop at [evil?] [...]?I'm very annoyed and dissatisfied and obviously returned it.

This is a great little water container. It fits perfectly on the rear wheel wells of my jeep when i go off roading. While i have not placed on on the floor while off roading, it also fits perfectly on the floor if you are wanting to keep your center of gravity down.
Service and delivery comments:
Had it shipped to the Santa Ana REI store to save shipping costs. Arrived in a very timely manor and received prompted emails stating it was ready to pick up.
When i picked it up, as always, i would rate REI's service as top notch, even though i did have a bit of an issue with the young lady who helped me.
