    Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

I've used many types of panniers over the last twenty years and these are hands down the best. And for about the same price I've paid for much flimsier and more complicated panniers.
    Great features:
So easy to get on and off the bike!
    Waterproof!
Huge - My daughter can carry her saxaphone in a hard case to school in it (okay, the top's open and it's not waterproof then...) I just keep 'em on my bike and can fit tons of groceries in them. Or my gym bag.
Super durable: no zippers or snaps.
And we used them as dry bags on our canoeing trip!

    Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

Used on a 2 week tour in Italy last summer with one day of heavy rain.

The panniers (front and back)are very well made and attach and lock firmly to the bike but are also very quick and easy to remove. The bags are somewhat heavy due to the waterproof fabric.

I am not totaly sold on the "one compartment" design which makes it harder to organize your gear and means you allways have to open the bag to get at stuff rather than just unzipping a side pocket to get at small often used items without even getting out of the saddle. Also, with traditional panniers you can stuff large items (tent/sleeping pad etc.)under the straps to increase carrying capacity and you can't do that with these panniers.

The waterproof concept is OK but be aware that tough though these bags are it does not take much rubbing allong a rough surface (e.g. road or stone wall) to make a hole in them and then they are not waterproof and if none of your stuff sacs are waterproof (and why should they be since you payed a weight/price penalty to get waterproof panniers)you could be in trouble. I have patched the hole in mine and hopefully they will continue to work well.

All in all these are fine panniers and will serve you well as long as you don't mind these limitations.

      Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

I've had these bags for 10 years now, and they still work great. Once you roll the tops there are no dangly straps to get caught in your spokes (which almost ended a bike tour for me with another set of panniers). They come on and off my rack quickly, and they still keep all of my stuff dry after daily use for all of that time.

        Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

I cannot say enough good things about Ortlieb's Backroller panniers. I just finished a 4,000 mile cross country ride and my Ortliebs were there every step of the way. From their relatively minimal design (there's beauty in simplicity) to their absolutely waterproof nature, they cannot be beat. They offer plenty of storage space, seem quite durable and feature an innovative and easily adjusted means of attachment to your rack.

I prefer never to use a different set of panniers on a bicycle tour. Eat my dust, Arkel, Nashbar, and Avenir.

          Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

I recently used these panniers on a month-long tour and was very pleased. They are easy to adjust for a precise fit to your rack, and the hooks near the top have a ingenious system that automatically locks and unlocks them to the rack as you lift or release the handle. The bags are also very easy to get things in and out of thanks to the wide mouth. The material is very durable and waterproof as advertised but a good spill can scruff the fabric enough compromise the waterproofing. However, my bags took a beating and are still waterproof for all intents and purposes. Compared to other panniers I've used, these were easily worth the little extra $.

          Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

These are some great bags and are definately worth the high price. You might pay a lot but these bags are extremely durable (I've had these bags for about 7000 miles with no problems). They are also completely waterproof, I've never had a problem with stuff getting wet inside. They also lock onto your bike rack so they can't fall off when you hit a bump.

The only problem is that they don't have any inner pockets to store small items. They are also a little pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for.

          Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

These bags are great for anyone who likes the "one pocket" method of organizing panniers. They are just one big sack, with a small internal mesh pocket. The attachment system is excellent and easy to adjust, no rattles! Probably the best attachment system available.

Very waterproof, of course, but for non-waterproof missions, such as grocery shopping, you can leave the top unrolled for extra storage.

They are pretty heavy for their size, which is just part of the waterproof trade-off, they also include a handy but not very comfy shoulder strap.

          Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

These are really great waterproof panniers. I have a quick release delta rack on my mountain bike and I really like the simple design of these panniers. You just roll the tops down on the panniers and secure them with a strap and you're done. I also like how simple the release clips are where you just lift up on the strap to put on/take off the panniers. I've ridden nearly 1000 miles with these panniers and I'm very happy with my choice.

They're not cheap panniers but the construction is such that I will not have to replace these panniers for years.

            Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

I bought these to supplant the plastic container "bike bucket" I used for bike commuting. The bike bucket was generally fine and has a certain Portland eco-chic, but often I couldn't fit all my clothes, shoes, lunch and sundries. Then I'd have to add my old Jandd grocery pannier to my rack. The two together got kinda bulky and klugey. So I tried my husband's Ortliebs and was sold! They hold all my stuff for commuting, and then some. If I want to stop on the way home and buy some groceries, there's plenty of space. We're planning a bike tour later this year, so will use the Ortliebs then. The Ortliebs do it all -- waterproof commuting/shopping/touring. I like the way they go onto and lift off the rack in one movement. I'm still getting used to the fact that there's a left and right pannier, but this is minor. I can see how the single cavity design could be a "con" for touring, because it is nice to be able to quickly get to some things w/o having to rummage in the one big pannier. But I figure for tours I'll use a trunk rack or fanny pack to keep small items handy. Love the new white color: looks sharp, and makes it easier to see things inside. Overall I'm thrilled with these panniers

            Comments about Ortlieb Backroller Panniers:

All of their products are great and these bags are no exception. However, they really dropped the ball on the should strap design. I don't know what they were thinking about. They need to remove it or redesign it. It gets in the way and looks terrible.
