Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can carry my gear 2 remote Wild Places Ortlieb Backroller Classic Panniers I have the older version of these that are in solid black, so no fancy design on the front. I have had mine for about 5 years and I do an insane amount of prim camping (work related) where I can mountain-bike all my gear in using my Ortliebs (which means love of place in German fyi). For all these years, I'm still using the same ones, as they are crazy durable. I don't need compression or waterproof sacks anymore. I roll the top seal as many times as possible pushing out all the air compacting all my gear. I stopped using the extra strap that goes on the outside years ago, instead I grab the top and roll the strap, letting out any extra air, as mentioned above and then I clip the ends together across the top, completely eliminating the need for the extra strap. They keep my gear dry even when riding over creek crossing where the bags get really wet on the outside. Tips and Stuff to watch out for: 1. The adjustable roll down top, which is great for allowing different load amounts, can get sand, dirt and some water in it, so be sure to open your bag to dust that off before bringing it in your tent. 2. Don't leave the black one's in the sun as they will get really hot. 3. When biking with them empty be sure to fluff them up with air i.e. don't flatten them and then put them on your bike as the straps can get stuck on a tree as you pass by it on your bike. 4. Always balance the weight evenly so each bag has about the same weight in it. 5. I put climbing hooks of different colors on the outside hook to distinguish what's in what bag. 6. Always check that you have them secured to your bike rack. 7. The white light reflectors on sides have freaked out one horse and one dog (I guess they sort of look like big white eyeballs). One little doggy would not pass me on the trail till we figured out why and I turned my bags around. So in summation a durable, well thought out design that does everything as advertised. Don't settle for the cheaper versions that don't allow for easy removal by just grabbing the handle, just bite the bullet and buy the expensive quality product from the start, you won't regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for riding, need work for carrying I bought these with the intention of using them for touring. However, as I build up my endurance, I've found myself grabbing one or both of these bags for grocery runs, picnics, and even commuting into work on days when I need to cart a lot of stuff. The attachment handle to the bike is great, the little pocket inside the bag is handy for little items I need quicker access to, and they had withstood being stuffed with a fair amount of weight. My only gripe is the experience OFF the bike - the shoulder strap is thin, the little rubber pad on it moves around easily, and the bag has a tendency to hit me in the back of the leg as I walk. I know that there are panniers out there better designed for commuting, and that will be my eventual solution, but I wish these were a little better adapted in that regard so I don't need to own so many different bags!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Panniers-Well Made-Rugged These panniers were recommended by a friend with 1000's of miles.. I bought a set for the GAP and like them a lot, they are well made and rugged.. They will hold a ton of stuff for the long hauls or just enough stuff to make it through a three day ride. They also fit well on the racks (adjustable) and once clipped in secure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A classic for many reasons There's a reason why these are so highly regarded. Actually, there are many reasons. Here's a sampling of the ones that struck me as most pertinent. These things are rugged. I'm not worried about ripping out a rivet as I tighten down my load, or cutting through the material when biking through some rough stuff. The provided shoulder strap is a nice touch. I nearly bought the City panniers and would've paid for that dearly on my last bike camping trip. We had to hike the bikes into the woods for a bit in order to find a decent camping spot. Hand carrying these things through some dense forest with bike shoes on would've been terrible. Sleek, minimal design looks good to me. I got the all black versions and love them. My only complaint is that there are few organizing pockets and they're hard to access. Hunting for bars and gel-packs while on a break is frustrating if you figured you'd put them in one of the small internal pockets for "easy future access". Looking forward to years of use with these guys. From bike camping to grocery runs, these are pretty well-suited for my needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for biking-not so much for walking These panniers are great for getting to and from work with my computer, yoga mat, lunch, notebooks, sweater, and everything else to get me through the day. I only use one and it is really stable, even with my yoga mat sticking out the top. The latch mechanism is really secure so I feel comfortable riding around with my computer on pot-holey Boston streets. These are perfect when I'm on my bike! My only complaint is when I get off my bike, walking around with this pannier with any amount of weight is pretty uncomfortable. As others have mentioned the strap is uncomfortable, but my real complaint is that the mechanism to hold the bottom of the bag to the rack sticks into me, especially when I have my computer in it. I never use these if I have to get off my bike and walk around for any extended period. I'm still looking for the perfect pannier that can go from my bike to the bar-- but this is not that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent daily commuter cargo I use these to truck a change of clothes, my laptop, and a lunch to and from work daily. I also use them to pick up groceries and find that the capacity is just about perfect for my weekly grocery run. The bags attach and detach very quickly-- there's a simple one-pull handle that unhooks both clips with one lifting action. Very neat. It works so easily that I sometimes worry at stops that somebody will run by and detach the bags and run away with them (don't worry -- I'm just being paranoid). If you don't pull on the handle, the bags stay firmly attached and do not come loose during travel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great touring bags Got these in Oregon the day before beginning a three week tour on a recumbent. Used these bags with a mid-rack below the seat. They fit just fine, and I could get into them easily when they were on the bike. So easy to put on and take off. I found the carry straps were just fine for carrying them onto the train at the end of my tour. Not uncomfortable at all. I have yellow, and there's a side benefit: the insides are yellow also, and its easy to look in and see what is where. Don't think that would be so easy with a dark colored set. Love them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply gets the Job Done I use this on my performance road bike. Used them to carry my all my camping gear around Mt Rainier and for change of clothes so I can ride to work. They hook onto the rack almost too easy. I have to check to make sure they are on. But they are always on very secure. It's simply just a good design that lets you drop them right onto the rack.
