Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
i have been climbing and caveing for over a decade now and i have not found a helment that can out perform the ecrin rock it is very durable and light weight i have taken countless hits to the head with both my ecrin rocks and they are still kickin and so am i - i have also taken several hits with non suspension helments and it hurts!!!!!! the ecrin rock absorbs the impact energy and transmits it down the spinal colum rather than the blunt force trauma of non suspention helments witch do protect well but it will ring your bells to take a big hit i have also taken a 50 foot pindulum swing fall into a wall with my ecrin rock the impact was atrocious and left me bleeding on my left side from the arm leg and hip erea but the helment protected my head very well even though my head took a signifigant impact i remained consious and in control i will say that most of the time a dedicated climber would probably use a styrofome helment or other non suspention type helment due to the fall protection the all around impact absorbtion of the ecrin rock is the way to go for me as they have not in my opinion made a beter one yet and so i am the proud owner of 2 and i probably wont ever need to buy another due to the sheer ruggedness of this helment sorry for such a long reveiw i hope it will help some of you who may be unshure about what to buy thnxx

Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
This Helmet is used by every Fire Department and rescue agency I have ever worked with.
Amazingly simple to get the right fit on any one, accepts just about every head lamp, great fit!
These helmets work well in hot and cold weather (as long as you have a thin beanie underneath...)
The holes mean you can get wet when it rains, but Petzl makes covers for each of the vents that plug in, as well as an Ecrin Roc without the vents (also provides electrical shock protection.) Its also very possible to make a zero weight cover, similar to a pack cover, that will keep the rain out (all the ones that I have seen where home made, not sure if they are sold anywhere or by who.)
I have this helmet, and should it ever break, or more likely, should I lose it, this will be the helmet that I buy again.

Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
The Ecrin Roc is intended mainly to keep falling objects from hitting one's head. Contrast the bicycle-style helmets that are better able to care for the brain of a leader whose head hits the rock in a fall.

Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
I have had this helmet for 5 years now and I never go on any outdoor adventure without it. It has been my go to for all sorts of trips. It works great in all seasons and weather types. You can easily tape the ventilation holes shut (or buy the plugs Petzl sells) to make it much warmer during winter climbs. It adjusts easily to fit my large head (7 5/8") with a knit stocking hat all the way down to my girlfriends little bean (6 7/8"). The clips to hold the headlamp on work flawlessly. Price is a little steep, but when it comes to your noodle it is definitely worth it. All in all it is a great piece of equipment to have.

Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
I like the solid, simple design, but had comfort issues that became deal-breakers. First, the helmet is narrow from side-to-side, putting slight pressure on my temples. It’s bearable, but rules out wearing any kind of liner underneath. Second, the chin strap chafed on my beard stubble, leaving an irritated band that lasted for a week after my last climbing trip. I’ve never either problem with previous helmets.

Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
I have used the Ecrin Roc for about 8 years, more for caving than anything else. It's sturdy, isn't too heavy, and can be used for climbing or caving.
The head band is relatively easy to adjust; two thumbwheels change the fit of the suspension, and stays that way until a change is needed.
The Roc has decent ventilation, but not so much that a falling rock is likely to get through the vent holes. The built in headlamp clips work fine for Petzl and other headlamps with elastic bands, but the helmet has to be modified with a different mount if used with blade mount electric miner's lamps (for indoor or outdoor rescue, big rooms).
All in all, I like. I bought one for my daughter when she got interested in caving and bouldering.

Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
I am looking for a suspension helmet (compared to the bicycle-style helmets that are now popular). The Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet was type that I was looking for. The problem was that the chin strap was much too long, and there was no way to make them shorter (believe me, I took it to the REI store to get it adjusted, but they couldn't do it). Imagine, the plastic pieces that should be near the ear (to create a triangle of webbing)were actually right under my chin! My face is too short and head too small. I understand that they used to make two sizes of the Petzl roc. Now they only make one size (21-25 inches in circumference). I would buy this helmet if only it came in my size....

Comments about Petzl Ecrin Roc Helmet:
I used this on glacier treks/ice climbing.
It's comfortable, worth the cost. It's going to keep your head safe and it can take a beating. Some of the other helmets are made kind of like bike helmets. They'll take one good hit, and fall apart. "one hit wonders" This one will take a lot of solid blows and keep going.
