Comments about Black Diamond Super 8 Belay Device:

This is a time tested device and is the best at what is designed for. If you do any rappelling this is absolutely the device to have. It works easily with single 11+mm ropes and any size double rope. With a single rope the rappel can get a little speedy so I recommend gloves if you plan on that. If you are going to be doing double rope rappels with high diameter rope or a very long one with lots of rope weight you may want to get a rescue 8 as it has a bigger opening. Otherwise, this is the rappelling device to have.

Great device! I dont even use my ATC Guide anymore. I normally always rig this in the canyoneering style which makes rappelling very speedy and extremely smooth. I even rig it this way for belaying, which makes some people nervous but after I show them how effective it is they are good to go, just make sure to wear gloves!!
